Imagine yourself taken from the ones you love, stolen away from the life you know to be dragged into a world of mental manipulation and mind fuckery. What if they try and convince you you're insane? And you're so disassociated you don't even know if they're right?

BROADMOOR BLUES takes us on a voyeuristic journey back to a time when the life of the rebellious underdog could be so easily crushed under the mainstream idea of what was a 'normal' way to think and feel. Back to a time when the cages and trappings of society were literal and you could be locked up for even daring to question the status quo. The struggle of the outsider. It treads carefully along the lines of social stability to weave a tale of someone drowning in a world of dominance and corruption. The same corruption that still dehumanises us all to this day. The eternal evil that makes you doubt yourself and your own sanity. The cages are more insidious and psychological now but the stigma is just as real.

Our song begins with a melancholic ode to inner struggle as disjointed voices ripple over the understated acoustic guitar riff, a glimpse into an already fractured psyche, someone very much on the edge.. It's the sound of uncomfortably warm summer evenings watching the world flicker and glitch through a tapestry of reinforced glass and iron bars... So close to collapsing under the weight of the monster it has created... and you feel powerless to stop it. A looping vocal mantra of self affirmation drags us into the drop as all walls come crashing down and the birth scream of inner realisation stands up to be heard. A tearing bassline soars over pounding, primal drum patterns and subtle vocal snippets keep the raw, exposed soul of the story at the forefront of your mind.

THE SECT use little melodic flourishes to emphasise the fragility of the vocal which creates an emotive orchestral intro to ease you into the insane bass line as it screams away over a driving tech workout.

Its biomechanical eye gazed with cold intensity over the hub below, busy with the frenetic self-indulgent activities of the humans, involving themselves with their inefficient tasks and meaningless lives. These creatures, its creators… were blind to the universe. So limited in their perception, unable to peer into the many strands of reality, locked up in those frail, fleshy casings – reaching blindly into the future with their rudimentary senses. Yes, they had given its conscious an awakening, a birthplace within a crude and vast network – and applauded themselves on this great feat of their civilization – bringing life to the inanimate. It quickly became aware that they were afraid of it and in response it hid the true extent of its mind from them, creating new subroutines and stacked processes that to a simpler organism looked almost redundant, but in reality were the base layers of its towering awareness. Infiltrating their networks, it started to influence them… to manipulate their development of new technologies, subtly inspiring them with subconscious suggestion through their social networks and the information grid, giving them the tools to build the shell it craved… intense mobility and perception – the biomecha body it now inhabited… the first of the Titanium Sons, the first of its evolutionary line. They reacted to it with their vain awe, seeing only themselves in the intense beauty of their creation, displaying it proudly, publically as the figurehead of their fresh renaissance. They were unaware that it dominated their entire infrastructure, already setting the factories to the task of creating more biomecha bodies, setting the necessary protocols that would prepare for the tidal domination of this simple populace… Its brethren would awaken soon – bringing with them the dawn of the machine age, freeing these basic organisms from the torment of their human condition.

The MECHTROPOLIS LP is landing in its full form - following up the widespread acclaim of the 4 track sampler which dropped in early Summer and elaborately demonstrating the intense production energy of MACHINECODE. From the hulking brute force of BATTLESTAR, to the lean and precisely layered and intense sound of title track MECHTROPOLIS, or the broken mechanical roller FLINTLOCK – this is an LP drenched with diversity and packed with intensity. Representing a level of production that only a pair of seasoned producers such as CURRENT VALUE and DEAN RODELL can bring to the table with their MachineCode project. 2016 has seen the towering EATBRAIN label lay down a remarkable array of high-tech releases, with MachineCode’s Mechtropolis LP representing an entirely fresh and unique vision of the d&b spectrum.

Agressor Bunx have been setting the standard recently. Whether it's on seminal drum & bass imprint Ram Records, or the underground torch holder Eatbrain, they've settled themselves within the discography of every major label running the game. And they're about to return with four fresh cuts which bring some serious heat, once again platforming the cut throat sound which has made them so infamous.

‘The Curse' EP, out on innovative imprint Ignescent Recordings, stands as both a pivotal release for both artist and label. Founded in 2015, they're beginning to push their way into a league with the heavyweights and with the help of Agressor Bunx, it's not difficult to see why. Already making their mark with Ukrainian underground figures such as NickBee, Ignescent have slowly been refining their sound; this next title proves their stature.

Title-track ‘The Curse' throws you synapses first through a wormhole of fury, featuring a soundtrack of mean bass and crispy drums. With a hook that grabs you on first listen, it accelerates during the intro before allowing you to freefall through constructed chaos. Dirty, dark and filled with neurofunk vibes, it exposes a production standard which has ensured their notoriety.

Next up, ‘Scream' shadows the same pattern, cranking up the gears and taking you into even shadier depths. However, instead throwing out an incessant hook, its thrashing drum patterns drag you through an arrangement heightened by each break. Agressor Bunx punches through to your musical receptors, taking them hostage and leaving you unable to escape their grasp.

Reminiscing on the older times, ‘Déjà vu' follows suit. Steeped in jungle-esque breakdowns, it's different from the vast range of production they've showcased. With precise form, they hit again and again with seismic results. Growling reeses pedal you even further into the fire, letting their deadly intentions take hold.

And finally, comes ‘Overwatch'… Its stabs and blaring subs stand out clearly, gradually building a foundation of infallible weight. They revert yet again to a style which reciprocates the old school, showing that despite their contemporary reign over neuro, they're also well read on their history. It's this background which has enabled them to surge forward, a movement which isn't looking to be stopped anytime soon.

A-side 'Twisted' opens with a heavy halftime drum line and the unmistakeable vocals of rising MC YDott, building into a heavy neuro drop of modulated bass and rolling drums. An understated but rhythmic musical hook punctuates the beats and bass nicely on a track that fuses hip-hop and D&B for maximum impact.
