The Freestylers need no introduction and neither does their all time classic 'Ruffneck'. This Anthem has been re-recorded and hurtled into the future by notorious electronic punks Ctrl Z and has been one of the biggest tunes in the sets of the likes of Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, Freq Nasty, Deekline and of course the 'Stylers for the past year! It was natural that the Stylers would turn to the Z to put their take on what is considered by many as the best Freestylers track ever! Blending the old with the new, Ctrl Z have managed to keep the ‘rough around the edges’ vibe of the Freestylers original, while stamping their monstrous bassline and synth sounds all over it.

There aren’t many acts working in electronic music who can say they’ve had their music played by both trance demi-god Paul Van Dyke and drum & bass don Andy C in the space of a month. But Cutline can. ‘Die For You’ sees the duo in electro-house mood, complete with flowing piano chords, bleeping synths, heavily processed vocals and, of course, a drop that’s filthier than a 5am-kebab. A progressive electronic duo, formed in 2016 by seasoned beatsmith Tsuruda (Darker Than Wax, Team Supreme, Division) and experimental artist Huxley Anne (Dome of Doom/Alphapup), PAINT incorporates all aspects of both member’s creativity. The duo was inspired as the two were coming up in the LA beat scene, often adding visual elements to their live performances while writing genre-defying songs in the studio. Their style draws largely on abstract hip-hop, jazz, bass, and grime influences, but unites these elements into seamlessly painted soundscapes that stand out in the modern sea of electronic music. Their powerful rhythms, colored nuances, and expressive lead synth tones ignite in the PAINT live show, where you can often find the duo mashing custom visuals together while spinning tracks back to back.

“After years of writing together under our solo aliases, this EP has solidified a creative purpose—unifying musical production with a visual aesthetic to elevate electronic music into the realm of art. It also serves a social purpose, placing a man and a woman on equal footing within a technical environment where women are scarcely represented. Fighting against both genre and gender constructs drives our forward-thinking energy inside the musical structure.

When 20/20 LDN approached us about writing an EP, we were ecstatic. They’ve created a platform we value for both the visual aesthetic and their fearlessness in bridging genres within electronic music. For us, working with Ivy Lab on this release is directly in line with our goals of defying genre constructs in order to create art that lives beyond contemporary confines.

This EP is an intellectual apex for us, seeking to defy genres from within their technical and stylistic constructs. By combining sound design techniques from European bass music with the rebellious energy of the LA beat scene, we’ve entered a musical landscape that is not yet defined. The EP’s title, Exodus, represents our departure from genre-based music, opening up a new environment where sound design, aesthetic, synthesis, and culture have become modular tools for exploring the future of electronic production."

'Faith in the future' is a neuro-inspired hard hitting stepper. A morbidly obese break layered with electro mechanical bass sounds teleports one right into the chaos of a futuristic war. If amplitude of audio signals were to be used as a weapon. This might be a just the right 'tune' loaded into the firing decks. A hint of emotion emerges in midst of all the chaos. The melancholic pads create the perfect breather, a contrast in colour or  perhaps a metaphor for reflective self evaluation in the midst of never ending internal conflict.
