Italian techno producer Distant Echoes presents the first ep of the new year “Rough Waves”, a four-track pack. 

Distant Echoes has been building a name in the last few years since he debuted on the Dystopian label in 2014 and toured all around the world, yet, he’s been producing and playing electronic/house/techno music since almost two decades. As Out-ER co-founder, he previously released music before the beginning of his bond with Dystopian. In the last years, while Distant Echoes has mostly focused on releasing on Dystopian, Out-ER has indeed expanded its range of collaborations worldwide, by putting out music from Juan Atkins, Orlando Voorn, Terrence Dixon and more. 

Distant Echoes now readies the first installment on his own label with his newest moniker, showcasing his typical sound: deep, intense grooves and gloomy soundscapes crafted with exceptional productional accuracy. “Rough Waves” is to be released on vinyl and digital at the end of February.

Launching in 2017 we saw innovative releases from the likes of Lucy, Blawan and Roots in Heaven. Kicking things off in 2018 we welcome Paleman to the family with a new direction of sound for the London based producer in fierce four-tracker 'Searching'.

Now often releasing on his own PLMN label, this classically and jazz trained artist has previously won plenty of fans and plaudits for heavyweight rollers on labels like Swamp 81, 81 and School Records. Emerging from the ashes of dubstep to come up with his own deep techno sound, he is a Rinse FM regular with his experimental show 'Trenches' and mirrors this exploration with tracks full of texture, modular synthesis and visceral percussion.

Opener ‘2068’ is a dark and foreboding bit of economical techno. Monolithic kicks set a forceful groove below as they rock back and forth, and factory floor sounds, scurrying little sonic details and rattling hits all peel off the groove as it powers on. ‘Searching’ is five minutes of tight drum programming overlaid with twisted fx, edgy alarms and menacing spirits.

The flip brings with it another all consuming bit of warehouse techno in ’The Peg Loosens’. With scraping hits and groaning synths and drums that again seem to rock back and forth on their heels, it has a masterfully muggy, bleak and foreboding sense of atmosphere that is unsettling yet absorbing. Last of all, the industrial tinged ‘Slurp’ hurries along with bristling percussion and warped synth stabs doing a manic dance in the distance. It’s urgent and compelling as it barrels along, never letting up and never allowing you to look back. 

These are four powerful pieces of full bodied techno.

The latest on the LT podcast front comes from Spanish up and comer DIY 1990 and woah it’s a big one. 

Having stunned us with his synth-tinged disco “Room 202” release through LT Fire late last year, the Spanish producer is back with a nearly 3 hour sonic exploration that could only come from someone who has a true adoration for music in all its varieties. The mix begins with an almost regal soundscape that morphs and weaves through synth lines and ambient textures before settling into some raw techno and electro works then ending on a post-punk high.  

This one is an auditory journey that words can’t do justice for so sit back and strap in!!

Hailing from Berlin, SLV is well respected for his melancholic sound design and crystalline soundscapes having released on labels like Ilario Alicante’s Virgo and Slam’s Soma. Following the release of SLV’s ambient ‘Berlin. A Portrait In Music’ album, Slam’s iconic label has invited a powerful selection of techno producers to reimagine a handful of tracks; Figure, Clergy and Work Them Records producer Setaoc Mass; Ukraine’s master of mind-bending techno, Stanislav Tolkachev; and also Delsin regular Conforce. ‘Dust’ by SK_Eleven founder Setaoc Mass brings melodic flare with enveloping synths above dark rumbling lows, before SLV’s injects some energy into ‘Talking With The Shadows’ with his own Rave Mix. incorporating moody tones and slow flowing arps with dark cavernous reverb. Krill and Mord artist Stanislav Tolkachev then offers a steady beat with euphoric chimes and vinyl hiss for his stripped back ‘First Day In The City’, preceding Dutch artist Conforce’s ‘Forest Voices’ which balances unearthly sound design and a steppy drum pattern.

When complex sci-fi techno comes to mind, the name of Eric Fetcher is fundamental. For this slice of wax, the french producer based in Barcelona offers 5 cuts, four in the physical edition and one extra in the digital release.

Rupture One is like a Martian troops march in hyperspace, obsessive modular sequences, shuffled beats and a linear and hypnotic arrangement.

Rupture two, goes even more alien, whit hi tech jazz synth lines, traditional 909 shuffled beats and again an abstract development.

Rupture three is like an elongation of the previous two, with the same stytlistic parameters.

Rupture four goes deeper into percussive fields, less synthetic and more toolish.

Rupture five is the final chapter of this extraterrestrial saga, sharing parameters with the rest of the EP.

Music from the future cooked today by one of the best sound designers around.

Droughtwerk is Berlin-based combination of artist and label.

From dub techno to deep melodic sounds mixed with percussive grooves, Droughtwerk approaches music production with the goal of remaining timeless, soaking in the influences of a city that simply lives and breaths techno.

Droughtwerk was basically two longtime friends that met in the scene ages ago. Always interested in each other's sound, checking out what the other one is up to at the moment. A couple of years ago they began to work together on some little projects, "it felt good right away“, that’s what they say today about that chapter. Somehow, sometime later, Droughtwerk was born. Lots of meetings in the studio followed, making music, having a lot of fun while just talking ideas about the future. Always evolving and developing new soundscapes to get deeper and deeper into the genre. After the first two EPs, one half of Droughtwerk decided to spend more time with his kids and works, since that decision, in the background of the project. Since 2020 the "DROUGHTWERK“ label is making itself known, focused on fully analog produced 4 track EPs pressed on vinyl.
