The sixth. Chief curator deep-sky objects (@deep-skyobjects) returns to the podcast, presenting a mix of rolling, squelchy, psychedelic deep techno, interspersed with layers of higher energy drums to occasionally lift us just above the clouds, before pulling us back into the hypnotic dreamscape below.

The seventh. Rolling oscillations guide us through an mesmerizing selection of some more organic flavors of deep techno. As we descend under a leafy canopy of sound, rolling toms and warm synth waves steer our curiosity, carrying us deeper into Harknee's unique vision and sound.

The eighth. For this instalment we welcome Yuddy Ash, a Kyoto based DJ and producer. The mix offers the listener a vortical experience, carrying you through a whirlpool of atmospheres and spaces. Exhibiting a variety of motifs which resonant with that more intrinsic, mellifluous side of our musical urges.

Out Of Focus 008 - Yuddy Ash

The ninth. This edition sees a very special recording from a very special place. This mix was recorded live from the Coombe stage at Above Below's 2024 edition. 

In the early evening of the festival's final day, kleine took to the decks. "It was one of the most enjoyable moments of the festival for me. My mind had finally quietened down after a crazy weekend, and I was able to settle into the cosy and intimate atmosphere of the Coombe". Delivering everything this stage promised to be, kleine's set blended into the surroundings effortlessly, a feat this festival achieves across the entire site.

The tenth. Laenk, curator of Resonance, invites us into a garden of delayed soundscapes, consistently slashed with a broad, ever expanding pallet of novel sonic oscillations. Hypnotic, cyclic, dreamlike drones accompany as we're effortlessly propelled forward by carefully crafted currents of bass, the omniscient kick grounding us to the groove.

Out Of Focus 010 - Laenk

The eleventh. This week we're very excited to welcome Hong Kong native Xiaolin to the podcast. A DJ, producer, and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Xiaolin has crafted a genre-bending, 2 hour listening journey through a myriad of textures, both deep and dark, showcasing a distinctive selection of tracks from friends and producers based in Asia. The viscous atmospheres, built and crafted bar by bar from the first moments of the mix, are so visceral that one feels they could almost reach out and touch them. The lights dim as we sink to greater and greater depths.

The second half of the mix opens up and capitalises on these elements, newly found sonic spaces filled with an ever changing flow of percussive patterns, a surprise around every corner. The lights flicker. Something has changed. We've been gently guided into new aural territory, perhaps without even realising it. 

Closing out the mix, we're propelled skyward from the depths, towards the light, into a shimmering, dreamlike soundscape. Only at the very last moment do our feet lightly make contact with the earth again as Xiaolin masterfully brings this voyage to a close.

Sit down, get comfortable, and float away.

Out Of Focus 011 - Xiaolin

The twelfth. Nils Wiiburg is a DJ drawn to the deeper, more hypnotic edges of dance music. Having played clubs, festivals, and intimate gatherings across Norway and beyond, Nils crafts journeys that invite listeners inward, guided by deep grooves and immersive energy.

On show in this mix is Nils expansive catalogue. We are treated to an array of styles; all with one thing in mind: to make you want to move. The track selection is the greatest strength of this mix. Nils exhibits a selection to be revered, taking inspiration from a multitude of shades of techno. 

From earthen rhythms, to deep misty echoic dub-techno, right through to buoyant sequences. A mix from the elements, to be enjoyed in a variety of settings.

Out Of Focus 012 - Nils Wiiburg

The thirteenth. London based Greek native @forma_oscura, resident of Athens based @faderadio, adds a particularly hypnotic and undulating chapter to the series, showcasing a broad selection and mix of the mesmerizing and reflective.

Gentler beginnings bring the listener down to the required depth, layers stacked one by one, creating a practically kaleidoscopic tapestry of sound. A rising energy in the mix picks us up, effortlessly mixing this hypnotic groundwork with an impulse, a drive, a undeniable rhythm that keeps our feet planted on the ground while we lose our heads in the clouds.

Hypnotic textures replace those more energetic from midway through the mix. We're encouraged to reflect, to dream even, to lose our way again and again as the beat continues to show us the way forward.

The path finally leads us into a surreal haze. We're lifted from the depths, our trail suddenly behind us in plain sight, as we bid farewell and the journey concludes, as all journeys must.

The fourteenth podcast. The first artist on the 2025 gathering lineup. When the idea for this podcast was first developed, showcasing Sardinian DJ's was always something we wanted to accomplish. There is a natural harmony between the environment here and this style of music. It is something that is difficult to articulate. The ambience lends itself to the hypnotic, organic, profound tones. The landscape mirrors the sheer, rugged, illusive elements of deep techno. The lapping sea emulates the constant, unerring yet unpredictable facets. 

One artist who in our minds captures the very essence of all of this; with consistently top quality releases, classy mixes and a genuine, friendly and approachable character, is Save Your Atoll, who we are thrilled to welcome to the Out Of Focus Podcast. 

We are also overjoyed to announce @SaveYourAtollofficial as the first name on our lineup for Out Of Focus Gathering 2025, an event that grants the opportunity to come and witness the harmony between this place and this music.

Today's mix is grounded in pace and energy. Rhythmic elements intertwine to invoke an unyielding urge to move. Out Of Focus 014 - Save Your Atoll

The fifteenth. The next artist on the 2025 gathering lineup. Audio Cla, a DJ and producer based here in Sardinia, presents a mix to hypnotize and mesmerize from the very first moments until the last fading frequencies. Relentless in it's energy, a true torrent that keeps us locked in and listening, enraptured in Audio Cla's selections. Peaks and troughs take us through diverse shades of spellbinding sound, keeping the mind reeling and the feet firmly *off* the ground. 

We're also very excited to welcome Audio Cla to the 2025 edition of the Out Of Focus gathering and for him to share his vision with us and the mountainous Taccu of Osini in September. On the 27th of September we invite you all to this gathering celebrating a fusion of sound and nature, where both Sardinian and international sonic artists will share their unique perceptions of this place.

Out Of Focus 016 - 03SIDIAN

The seventeenth. An entry from Out Of Focus co-curator @picnic-it.

A mix both diverse and wandering, we depart with bouncy, organic infused electronica, lighter textures slowly intensifying as the palette develops. The middle of mix finds its stride in some deeper, darker, resonant tracks. Rolling and revolving, the senses blur as the cycle grips our auditory senses. Finally, the listener is pulled back out of the hypnotic haze, stronger sounds of storytelling return to the forefront to reassert the groove, with haunting vocals and strings bidding the listener a final farewell. 

Out Of Focus 017 - Picnic

The eighteenth. This weeks entry coming from the talented @nemsb, who's crafted a genre-warping one and half hour journey through their vision of sonic space.

This twisting, morphing mix leads the us gently into an array of diverse soundscapes; each track presenting a unique motif, a new surprise around each corner rounded. Vocals pieces are dispersed elegantly throughout, never overpowering, instead deepening the palette of the mix, outlining the established vision with dashes of strong defining color.

After riding the line somewhere between dub and deep techno, with moments of detroit infused energy throughout the mix, the final tracks deliver some darker textures as we feel like the lights darken and we become fully immersed, lost in the finished canvas.
