Some riffs that I wrote over the course of June, to test a mix I was working on. Had enough of them to make a little song so there, here's a quickie for you guys. :) I might add more ambiences and write a bit more material for it later on but for now, it's done.

June Riffs

Posted a snippet of this on Instagram the other day but the quality of my phone really sucks so I thought I'd upload a higher quality version here. 

What you hear is almost straight out of Guitar Rig 5. There are two aux tracks --one with a reverb and one with a delay-- as well as a quick mastering chain in order to "dress up" the sound a little bit but other than that, the sound is mostly untouched.

From soaring guitar lines, complex rhythms and ambient soundscapes, “Red Bird,” demonstrates the vastness of metal music, taking influence from Caspian, Cloudkicker, The Contortionist and more. Traditionally grouped into progressive metal and djent, the quartet has made a conscious effort to transcend all conventions and constraints that factor into production, songwriting and image of those genres. Leaving behind direct-in guitar recording, programmed drums and in-house mixing/mastering, all four members performed and critiqued the album, creating the most organic and truest form of the band yet. “Red Bird” evokes cathartic feelings of love, growth and uncertainty, and being that it’s instrumental, it encourages the listener to create their own narratives in the music.

No part of this album was re-sampled or re-amped in any way.

Our conversation covered a lot of ground: evolution, the importance of biological diversity for personal, social, and ecological health, the inventive fecundity of life, the role of viruses in sharing genetic information, and more. I expect this conversation will help expand people's horizons in trying to understand health and sickness in the Covid era.
