Ovum’s 20th birthday celebrations gather pace as Josh Wink digs into the vaults for a very special piece of the label’s history, presenting three perfect reinterpretations of Wink’s hyperkinetic acid techno classic ‘Are You There’.

Wink explains the history and concept behind the track: “The original version was composed in 1994 - just after ‘Higher States’, ‘I am ready’ and ‘Don't laugh’ - and released in 1996, I can't believe it has been 20 years since it was written! I had a friend, in Cleveland Ohio, who knew I never answered my home phone. So, when he called my house, he believed I was there screening and listening to the calls on my answering machine. Hence, "Are you there". Which was actually taken from my answering machine mini cassette, with his blessing.

Ben Klock contacted us in regard to him using his own remix version for his fabric mix release. We gave him permission, as an exclusive to the mix, with the possibility for Ovum to release it at a later time. A while ago, we at Ovum were talking about releasing certain catalog legacy tracks for the 20 Years celebration, and ‘Are You There’ was one on the top of the list. We decided to release his remix on Ovum in 2014, which we’re very happy about as we are big fans of Ben.

There are ROD remixes by Benny Rodrigues and another great remix by Harry Romero. Both are talented passionate producers who contacted us to ask to remix the original. It's nice to be able to release music close to 20 years old that people are still influenced by. We will be re-releasing both the original and remix versions as part of the 20 years of Ovum celebration.” – Josh Wink

Ben Klock’s remix retains the clattering amen breaks of the original, which sits over a cavernous sub-bass undertow. Harry Romero reinterprets the song as a house groover, with a lo-fi 4x4 shuffle, groovy piano stabs and bass guitar loops peppered throughout. The ROD remix is dangerously stripped back, letting the vocal snippet take precedence against jacking handclaps and skittering hi-hats.

For the digital release, we have also gone back in and remastered all of the original classic mixes, giving them a fresh sound for 2014.  Go back and revisit some of these classic mixes, which still pack a huge punch today!

For release number 6 we are delighted to welcome our good friend Citizen back to the W&O Street Tracks family and along with him a producer we've had our eye on for sometime, Joe Ashworth.

Kicking off the EP we have 'Situation', a deep tribal house track featuring vocalist Shona Carmen that evokes the spirit of legendary clubs such as NY's Sound Factory whilst still sounding totally fresh and original. Stripped back without any unnecessary frills or flourishes, it's a masterclass in soulful yet simultaneously jacking house music.

If the original had more than a touch of Manhattan to it, then the 'LDN Warehouse Dub' brings things right back home with a sound forged on smoke filled dance floors in the grimier districts of East London and in its hypnotic, metallic bass line a nod to the Bleep sound of a previous generation of warehouse fillers like Unique 3 and LFO.

Finally we finish things off with 'State' a tautly wound piece of underground house music, that gently ratchets up the tension over 4 minutes before the organ comes in and before you can say 'La Da Dee, La Da Day' lifts the track, and we'd put money on any crowds listening to it, up to a whole 'nother level.

With half a dozen releases now in our first year from the likes of Ejeca, Rhythm Operator, Squarehead, Chamboché and Waze & Odyssey, W&O Street Tracks has quickly established itself at the forefront of the UK’s ongoing house music renaissance.

Toolroom’s very own Pete Griffiths teams up with house music heavyweight, Cevin Fisher to bring you ‘Chicago’; a shining tribute to the spiritual birth place of house.

Whilst tirelessly pushing the label forward, Pete Griffiths has enjoyed his own success with previous releases like ‘Filtered’, ‘No Soul’, and his recent remix of Doorly’s ‘Rush’, alongside touring the globe representing Toolroom. On this latest offering Pete teams up with US legend Cevin Fisher who is no stranger to success with both a tour schedule and list of chart successes that go way back when. Back on Crosstown Rebels after the barnstorming ‘Heartbreaker’ EP at the end of last year, Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke once again shows he’s a dancer at heart and a truly versatile beat maker. Kicking off with another killer A-side ‘Candy Flip’, Kele builds an infectious track as he works a dirty low bassline with his own deep gravelly vocals. ‘The New Feel’ follows on with dark bass stabs making way for a bouncing groove, haunting chords, and filtered vox with an anthemic feel. FCL’s remix treatment gives a classic, uplifting dimension to ‘Candy Flip’ while final original ‘Come To Me’ is a master class in raw, bass heavy grooves with a modern touch and fresh vocals from Jenny Bastet.

German DJ duo andhim brought us 'The Wizard of Us' last year, making their debut on Get Physical Music with the 2 track EP. While the title track was a small hit in its own right, it was the b-side, 'Hausch' that stole the stage with its sunny vibes and feel-good atmosphere. Now the boys have given the track to fellow Cologne artist Dürerstuben, Denmark's Kölsch and American techno-legend George Morel for a highly anticipated remix treatment.

Despite an affiliation with Aus Music, much due to his remix of Sei A's 'Make It Work' at the tail end of last year, Breach has never released any original material on Will Saul's label. 

That comes to an end later this month though, releasing the 'Artis' EP, following a whirlwind 2013 which saw him put one foot inside the mainstream with 'Jack', before serving up another catchy house number with 'Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)'.

Delsin's considered re-issue and re-release arm follows up on EPs from Claro Intelecto and son.sine with a trip back to an early UK techno heyday. The man behind the two tracks getting attention is In Sync aka Lee Purkis, generally regarded as someone who played a key role in the development of house and techno in England not just because of his DJ sets – Purkis would travel to the US to buy records no one else had – but so too for his productions. A steady stream of them was released from 1992 onwards on Irdial Discs, Plink Plonk and Fortune8 and each one was to the furthermost of futuristic techno and deep, spacious house music. 

The re-issues presented here ('Storm' from a 1992 EP and 'Subway Route' alongside Pluto from 1993) have been fully licensed by Delsin from Irdial and have been transferred from the original master reel-to-reel tape for full authenticity. 'Storm' is an epic 12-minute plus track that travels to the furthest regions of out galaxy where warm solar winds breeze past, the sound of spaceships circles you and a pinging kick drums drive you along. The hi hats are feathery light and jazzy and curious little alien synth sounds draw you deeper into this still futuristic sounding world. On the flip, 'Subway Route' is a 17-minute house trip that's lively and jazzy, airy and breezy and sounds like Boo Williams jamming with Carl Craig such is its hi tech sense of soul and seductive synth work. 

As ever this is a quality re-issue from Delsin that shines light on an often sadly overlooked producer and his truly pioneering discography.

The latest offering from Classicworks sees label bosses Cardopusher and Nehuen lock horns for a split offering of bunker-rattling techno. Referencing their love for meditative, hypnotic rhythm patterns and analogue synths, the producers focus on simple elements and formulas to create four tracks that are an essential addition to modern warehouse rave-ups.

Things start to get rough when Cardopusher kicks in with 'Hyperwave', which sees bouncy 303s against harsh drum machine bursts. 'Heatseeker', an overdriven, lofi acid track, exposes the producers love for analogue kicks of early hardcore and techno.

Nehuen gets things deep and textural with 'Non Verbal Thinking', relying on simple progressions washed in dirty reverb and echoing squarewaves. 'Mind Chats' comes in a warehouse mood full of white noise and acid baselines.

Named after the weekly *Dubmission* parties at the storied E-Werks nightclub, the latest release from *Anja Schneider* relays the sounds of her earliest musical experiences in 1990s Berlin, where DJs like Kid Paul powered the party, and amplifies the techno spirit of the old electrical substation for broadcast worldwide.

Further transmissions are detected within the bubbling techno of “Revolution,” inspired by the political upheaval throughout the world, as well as shifts within the dance music scene itself, and on *“Can You Feel It,”* which features a spoken word dispatch by vocalist *Parsifal Marin* of Brussels Pony Club that continues the long house music tradition of club tunes about rave experiences.

From Mr. Finger to Miss Kittin to Seth Troxler, many of the most memorable cuts in house music history spell out, with spoken words, the experience of clubbing while in the club itself. Meta-musical moment found to be effective on the dance floor. So it goes with “Can You Feel It,” the latest by Anja Schneider to pay homage to the Chicago greats, following last spring’s Ron Hardy-inspired “Hey,” which became an instant fave when Anja dropped it at the always in demand Mobilee rooftop parties in Barcelona.

Expect the same response in summer 2014, when “Dubmission,” and flipsides “Can You Feel It” and “Revolution,” hit the ears of sun-kissed partiers worldwide.

Bristolian duo, Forget Me Not, return to Losing Suki after 2013's "The Stronger" EP, keeping up the pressure with their deep and raw garage house sounds on the "Everything But Love" EP.  The title track balances their trademark blend of smooth vocals, organic percussion and heavy bass. A highly accomplished production, the pianos underpin a great vocal hook, with driving and tribal drums creating the good groove.   For those that can't stomach vocals (and why not, we ask?) there's an Instrumental Version where the Balearic tinges of the piano hook really shines through.  On the flip, "I Know" is another well-crafted, modern garage house cut, shimmering keys and rising pads in all the right places with a skippy beat that the New Jersey heads would be proud of.   “Evil" wraps up another solid offering from Forget Me Not, a heads down dancefloor jam with no nonsense bassline to get you properly in the zone.

After releasing her label debut „Let Go” which got across the board from various DJs, Isis Salam - the dance chameleon - is back on Exploited. Having confirmed gigs for Watergate Berlin, Sonar Barcelona and Amsterdam Dance Event, she’s ready to release her second single „Nasty Girl”. Just like „Let Go” this is a collab with Hamburg house hotshots Kruse & Nuernberg and the result is fresh!
