Imaginary rainfall, rhythmically inspired by something from Isotope's Deep End album from many years ago, kind of.

For the Basschat October23 composition challenge, inspired by the photo by the amazingly creative Tim M. Gravestock. 
This is more of a dystopian soundscape than a tune as such.
Mustang bass,  Eggle guitar, sonic screwdriver, Gretsch drums, vintage Rogers snare, Blackstar beam sounds .

I try to make music so that details like words, images and melodies jump out at the listener, a bit like a close-up in photography. Abstract, dark, delicate, dream-like.

August 2024 Basschat Composition Challenge entry.
As soon as I saw the photo, the repeating motif came into my head.
When I was working on my cover of Todd Rundgren's I Saw The Light, I read that he thought the lyrics were a bit trite and wasn't keen on the "Moon, June, Spoon" rhyming. Thus, I put these rhymes to work in the "verse" of this tune, It's all nonsense, of course, but I think the story fits the picture, but is the world ready for psychedelic madrigal-core yet?

Bicycle On The Wall

February 2025 Basschat composition challenge entry.
I'm trying to capture the feeling of a slow, peaceful trip along a canal. Things happen slowly and I've deliberately kept it repetitive and relatively uneventful.
Recorded using a parlour guitar with light gauge strings and employing the internal mics of a Zoom R24. Fretless bass through a Nux Mighty Plug pro modelling an Aguilar amp. That's the lot!
Didn't get around to recording the ducks at the lake...

Chill In Feb

Poem made with pupils of John Henry Newman Primary School and Oxford Academy about Littlemore, its past, present and future as part of a project to create a 'poemural' on the walls of the underpass on the Cowley Road there.
The vast majority of the words in the final edit were those of the young people involved.

Sometimes I play solo and acoustic, sometimes I play with my bassist Robin and my drum machine (Eric).  I'm based in South Oxfordshire, England.  I also play for Twizz Twangle, Moiety and Song and Supper Rooms.  I love Richard Thompson, Fairport Convention, The Beatles, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Loudon Wainwright, Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxie and the Banshees, Joy Division and many others.
