Jacques Pellen est un guitariste et compositeur breton, né à Brest en 1957. Son œuvre prend racine à la fois dans la tradition musicale bretonne et dans le jazz.
Né à Brest, il commence l'étude de la guitare classique à l'âge de douze ans. Très vite, ses oreilles vibrent aux sonorités jazz et celtiques. Il baigne alors dans l'univers de Keith Jarret, John McLaughlin ou Pat Metheny1. Il baguenaude entre formations jazz (Riccardo Del Fra, Peter Gritz, Kenny Wheeler, Bruno Nevez, Henri Texier) et musique celtique (Dan Ar Braz, Kristen Noguès, les frères Molard, Soïg Sibéril, Melaine Favennec...).
L'artiste a joué avec la plupart des artistes reconnus de la musique bretonne contemporaine. En 1986, il monte un trio avec Gildas Scouarnec et le batteur hongrois de jazz Peter Gritz, tombé amoureux de la Bretagne1.
Celtic Procession est une formation à géométrie variable qui naît en 1988. Il regroupe un collectif de musiciens d'horizons divers et passionnés d'improvisation. Cela amène à mêler du jazz aux thèmes et instrumentations d'inspiration celtiques. En 1990, Pellen 4 est le premier disque de la Celtic Procession. La production de sa Celtic procession a été un événement musical en 1993. Il participe avec Dan Ar Braz à l'Héritage des Celtes.
Il a formé un trio avec les frères Jacky et Patrick Molard (Triptyque), ainsi qu'avec le trompettiste sarde Paolo Fresu et Erik Marchand2, et deux quatuors avec Jean-Pierre Riou dans Karroth Rapée et Electric Arsenal... Il était le compagnon de la harpiste Kristen Noguès.

Jacques Pellen became a professional musician in the mid-70 performing with Breton artists Melaine Favennec, Annkrist or Kristen Nogues. In 79, he created a guitar duet with Bruno Nevez, that turned into a 4tet the following year with the arrival of the bass player Francois Daniel and the hungarian drummer Peter Gritz. Along with major jazz musicians such as the former bassist of Chet Baker, Riccardo Del Fra and the famous trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, Jacques Pellen participated in many creations in the 80's. In 94, he participated in the adventure "The Heritage of the Celts", conducted on stage and on the album by the guitar player Dan Ar Braz. In 97, he formed a new group with the Breton singer Erik Marchand, the Sardinian trumpeter,voted best European jazz 96, Paolo Fresu and bassist Henri Texier (album "Condaghes").
Jacques Pellen will also work with the brothers Boclé, Kristen Nogues and John Surman and joined the cast of the album "Lights in the Dark" in Iconoclastic Hector Zazou.
For his album Ephemera (2003), he invited the singer and musicians Annie Ebrel, Erik Marchand, Riccardo DelFra, Paolo Fresu, Peter Gritz. His following album Lament for the Children (2007) was performed in a trio with Marcello Pelliteri and Gildas Boclé.
He is currently performing in trio with Karim Ziad and Etienne Callac (album Offshore 2011 – choc by Jazzmagazine) and is the leader of the new project "Ar Rannou / Series" with Annie Ebrel and the jazz rock quartet One Shot. He is also playing in Sylvain Barou’s quintet and is collaborating with him on many projects including a new band with Trilok Gurtu.

away from the usual reggae clichés, they
demonstrate that their differences can be a
strength !
After winning the last « Rototom European
Reggae Contest » and the « Inouïs du
Printemps de Bourges 2015 » preselection,
Wailing Trees keeps growing bigger since the
release of his first EP « Selon Ma Nature » in
2012 followed by his first album «The World
Go Round» in 2015.
Touring quickly becomes the day-to-day life for
those young musicians who travel across France
to meet a more and more enthusiastic public.
They started touring abroad in 2014, hitting the
stages of the most famous european reggae
festivals such as the Rototom Sunsplash (Es),
the Summerjam (De), the Reggae SunSka
(Fr) and the Uprising Fest (Sk) just to name a
few. They even played at the Sziget Festival
(Hu) in 2015 !
After these touring years and numerous encounters on the road, new tones get to
enrich their original sound. The will of composing a more actual and purified sound
starts to emerge : for this second opus, the band was looking for a more produced
sound.
By choosing Umberto Echo (Dub Inc, Sarah Lugo, Oneness Records, …) as
sound engineer it becomes obvious that thanks to his “dubalist” experience, his
modern reggae mixing ability using a large range of effects, he enables Wailing
Trees to reach the sound they
were searching for !
Whether using Shakespeare
language on a reggae roots, soul,
ska, dub and even on a r&b track
or using french on a world music
melody, the topics of this second
album are the fruits of the emotions
that the band experienced after
the events that occurred during its
writing.
This second album, « Change We
Need », which will be released on
the 12th of may 2017, is named
after the change of artistic approach
of the band in itself but also after
the change that Wailing Trees
wishes to see in the world.
The first album « The World
Go Round », that dealt about
abstractive values such as
Happiness and Freedom, can be
seen as a painting where « Change
We Need » is more to handle as a
photography of the last years
taken by the music, questioning
the changes we need in our
world.

Art-X, quatre lettres pour un homme et un instrument. Et pas n'importe lequel puisqu'il s'agit du mélodica. Jamais sans son jouet fétiche, Art-X revisite, remixe et compose des morceaux à l'instar de celui qu'on pourrait présenter comme son père spirituel : Augustus Pablo. A la différence près qu'Art-X ne se limite pas aux fondations du reggae jamaïcain. Indéniablement influencé par la scène Bass Music, le mélodiciste originaire de Tours navigue entre les remixes oldschool et les compositions innovantes... le tout pour un Dub énergique et méditatif.

10 ans après avoir fondé, avec son frère Olo, le groupe Ondudground  et le weblabel ODGProd, Art-X lance en 2014 son projet solo. Sa constante créativité l'amènera à sortir plusieurs EP et albums remarqués, comme « Toy Story », « Spiritual Father » ou dernièrement « Blue Lotus ». Musicien depuis l'enfance, Art-X écume les scènes françaises, européennes mais aussi mondiales. Le Mexique a par exemple pu apprécier son talent naturel pour les mélodies. Parfois accompagné d'un groupe, souvent épaulé d'un dub opérateur, sur scène Art-X propose un live à la fois planant et stimulant. En somme, une prestation singulière et difficilement imitable.

Art-X is a composer, keyboardist, and also melodica player since the age of 16. 


He founded with his brother the band Ondubground in 2004. After the release of 15 albums and EPs, and many collaborations with for example Biga Ranx and Brother Culture, Art-X decided in 2014 to create his solo project, with the release of his first album dedicated to his favorite instrument.

Titled “Toy Story”, the album is composed of 11 tracks through 9 collaborations : Ondubground, Roots Raid, Dawa Hifi, Panda Dub, Manu Digital, Hatman, Frequency Lab, Miniman and Brain Damage.

In August 2014, Art-X came back with his second album “Cook & Curry”. This release is inspired by reggae-roots classics. Thus, it takes us on a journey through the history of reggae music, supplemented by the specific touch of Art-X and his Melodica.

In 2015 he joined the beatmaker Atili Bandalero and release "Melodica Circuit" then Art-X make himself an album tribute to Augustus Pablo called "Spiritual Father".

On stage, Art-X offers a live duo mix melodica from dub roots to dub stepper.
