This is my submission to the #kvraudio #OneSynthChallenge #195 featuring the VST Synth Ragnaroek by FullBucket. 
All sounds are coming from the Synth acompanied by a number of moderate tone shaping, mixing and mastering fx. I Mix/Master with MeldaProduction EQ/Compressor, Auburn Lense, Loudmax Limiter. All fx free or built into the DAW. DAW is Bitwig 5.3.x. No Samples. No Postprocessing after the audio export.

Ragnarök 2 by Full Bucket and Crimson Warlock

Last encountered in OSC70 this synth is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Ragnarök 2 is an update of this unique synth simulating a custom-built one-of-a-kind analog synthesizer from 1980. It is written in native C++ code for high performance and low CPU consumption.

Ragnarök is the collaborative work of Hans Peter aka CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin (synth concept, GUI design, user manual, patch programming) and Björn aka Full Bucket (DSP+GUI+patch programming). In the Völuspá, one of the most important poems of the Poetic Edda, Ragnarök is described as the apocalyptic end of the world and the gods' fate. The poem presents a prophetic vision delivered by a völva (seeress) to Odin, recounting the world's creation and its inevitable destruction.

Ragnarök begins with a series of omens: the Fimbulwinter (a great, harsh winter), moral collapse, and chaos among humans. Then, cosmic disturbances occur—wolves devour the sun and moon, plunging the world into darkness. The world tree, Yggdrasil, trembles, and the boundaries between realms dissolve.

The gods face their doom in a final battle against the forces of chaos—giants, monsters, and Loki's brood. Odin is killed by the wolf Fenrir, Thor slays the Midgard Serpent (Jörmungandr) but dies from its poison, and other gods fall in combat.

Despite the destruction, Völuspá ends on a hopeful note: the world is reborn from the sea, new gods arise, and a golden age returns, suggesting a cyclical view of time and renewal.

It had been years since I had created a song from scratch. Not just a few notes of music that sound good. Not just words that flow together. But a piece that grabs me there, in the gut, that gives me chills and takes me far, far away in my mind, and on which I would lay my voice to accompany this journey.

It was the end of a day in April. My son, who has a bright musical future ahead of him, had taken out his brand new guitar. He had an idea, a series of chords, and a first verse.

‘Because you don't know how much I love you,’ I suggested right away, ‘And how I feel alone tonight.’

It sounded a bit like Oasis, reminding me of my youth, when I was on stage with my band, and I replied: ‘We've got a hit here, I'll write the rest.’

Yes, son, you've just turned 16, you live for music like I did at your age, but you also have both feet firmly planted in feelings and love. And at this moment, they are so powerful, so palpable, they can turn you upside down, hurt you like hell and make everything else seem pointless.

As I wrote the lyrics to this song that I imagined giving to you, I tried to immerse myself in those years while bringing maturity to my story. I worked on it for nearly three months, searching for the right words, the lyricism of British pop, whether it be Oasis or Fools Garden, all with the help of Garage Band.

I let this story unfold, this feeling of being at the market in the pouring rain, hoping that she would come back or simply notice me, that the long-awaited sunny days would return. I enjoyed this double narrative... Then I thought to myself, "it must be even harder today to feel invisible, like a “madman” trying to get the attention of the one he loves. Connected, no ‘Like’, not even a “seen”... That feeling of happiness from a ‘thumbs up’. This hyper-connected world in which young people live today, with its instantaneity, makes all those moments even more painful than they were in my memories.

Then one day, as I was immersed in this song, I wanted to take it in a different direction. Something touching on my world of electronic sounds. Modern, but retro, like the band ‘The Weeknd’. The new sounds of SynthMaster 3 and its collection seemed like the perfect direction to take. I was going to produce a new sound, again working carefully for almost a month.

All that was left was to add the vocals. Yours? Mine? I couldn't bring myself to let go of everything I had built, which had become a part of me. That's how I heard it in my head, that's how I needed to share it. You remain the one who provided the seed, the main idea and the inspiration.

I went to find that microphone I've wanted to sing into ever since you were born. Sixteen years without ever plugging it in, taking the time needed to write a new song from start to finish. Here it is, I offer it to you with some very special thoughts.
