Commissioned by the Simcoe Contemporary Dancers in 2013, Cappuccino was my first time writing music to a dance instead of the other way around. The choreography was already complete, and I was asked to create the soundtrack around it. At first, that felt backwards — until my partner, who has an honours degree in dance, explained that it’s actually common practice.

So I sat with the video they sent me. Watched it over and over — at least a thousand times. From the detuned toy piano to the cellos, both strummed and bowed, every note and sound is mapped directly to the dancers’ movements.

For the record, I’m a coffee drinker, but for the longest time I thought it was called Capuchin, like the monkey. Turns out, it’s Cappuccino. Which honestly makes a lot more sense. Otherwise, those are some pretty chill monkeys.

Als je je niet zo lekker voelt is de verleiding groot om naar een zak chips of stuk chocolade te grijpen, afleiding te zoeken of het af te reageren op anderen. Een heel gezonde en uiteindelijk ook veel fijnere manier om hiermee om te gaan, is het opzoeken van de oorzaak van je gevoel en dat is bijna altijd juist het negeren van gevoelens. In de nieuwe meditatie in de Magische Momenten Podcast vind je de rust weer terug, juist door de spanning op te zoeken. Wat een bevrijding. Een transformerende meditatie!

Wat te doen als iemand een heel heftige, zware of negatieve energie heeft en je hier veel last van hebt?
