Today we premiere two tracks from Irish techno imprint, Awareness System. Pineal Navigation and Daniel Andréasson join up for a split EP on wax as the pairing deliver raw and minimalistic machine driven techno.

Swedish producer Daniel Andréasson focuses on experimental sides of dance music and forward thinking techno productions. His textured approach to techno has caught the attention of some of the industries most prominent names including Aphex Twin and more. Daniel is a regular on the Stockholm club scene, and has also graced the infamous Tresor Berlin.

Pineal Navigation, a.k.a. Niall Dunne, is a name that needs very little introduction within the Irish techno scene. Niall is widely known as one of the best techno DJs in Ireland, and has a pedigree for raw and driving machine driven techno. His journey first began when he won a DJ competition with Mixmag UK, giving him the opportunity to play at the renowned Dance Valley Festival, Amsterdam where he shared the stage with techno legend’s such as Kevin Saunders, Derek May, and Chris Liebing. Since then, Niall has been DJ’ing in the biggest clubs in Dublin and is a regular feature in some of Ireland’s biggest festivals, such as Life Festival, and Electric Picnic. Not satisfied with only expressing himself through Djing, Niall began experimenting with synthesizers and drum machines and began to immerse himself in music production. This process gave birth to the Pineal Navigation moniker which focused on capturing his productions through live jams in one take and keeping the energy of the process intact.

When Dublin based DJ and producer Pineal Navigation set up Awareness System in 2020, he intended to use the label as an outlet for music, specifically Techno & Electro, that told an evocative story. As the world went into lockdown, Niall, aka Pineal Navigation, decided to hone in on a sound that produced a positive frequency and dismantle the negative energy that started to seep into everyday life.

Two years on, the Dublin-based artist launches Awareness System with a split EP called ‘Combination 1’. Swedish producer Daniel Andréasson contributes two tracks to the release, adding another layer of intensity that aligns with the label’s aesthetic. Andréasson is an artist who approaches music with a no-frills attitude, which inspired Niall to invite his long-time friend into the fold of Awareness System.

On ‘Sensory Open’, Pineal Navigation creates an eerie atmosphere with swirling synths and gnarly basslines — a response to the chaos unfolding in the modern world. Daniel Andréasson cranks up the pace on ‘Enable’ with wonky drum patterns and distorted FX, veering into the darker textures of techno. The flip-side opens with Daniel Andréasson’s ‘Money Is A Motivator’ where he mutates bleeps and crackling percussion, luring the listener into a dystopian soundscape. Pineal Navigation closes the EP with ‘Off The Earth’, a stomping blend of rumbling bass and stabby percussion. A potent club-orientated track to mark the first chapter in the story of Awareness System.

"I discovered electronic music at the age of 14 years old. After spending two years in the techno capital Berlin where I studied sound engineering, I had the possibility to meet a lot of people and experience world class venues. It allowed me to develop my signature sound.

Influenced by Detroit, dub, tribal techno, hard groove and trance, my productions are a sweet blend of solid percussions and deep melodies driven by a modern and fun approach. I try to create a hard but soft universe which represents my vision of modern Techno."

Resident of the Nachtfalter collective, based in Switzerland, he's been a loyal fan of electronic music since his youth. Convinced of the potential of the local scene, he started playing techno at the age of 17.
 
A lover of fast sounds, he immerses himself in some of the greatest to bring out his groovy style.

From the beginning of his set, he likes to create a danceable energy with fast and punchy kicks while maintaining a definite progression that will make you move.

Expressing his rebellious attitude and intense energy, Paraguayan DJ & producer Bruno Wølf leads the new wave of techno and trance artists in his country.

He’s the owner of the De_Konstrukt party and co-founder of the U-Topic platform, with which he promotes innovation in his local scene towards more alternative proposals, inclusive spaces, support for emerging artists and a more open mind towards different currents.

In addition to playing regularly at local parties and clubs in Paraguay, he also performed internationally in Austria, Switzerland, and Argentina.

His sound is aggressive yet emotional, both in his DJ sets and in his productions, always guided by his intuition and focused on the dancefloor.

Influenced by the alternative and futuristic; his style remains eclectic, fast-paced and not limited to a single genre. A journey exploring the music wilderness.

This is reflected in his releases on labels such as SpeedMaster Records (Germany), Gomboc Records (Arg), Imminent Records (Portugal), Katana (Germany), Groove State (USA), T4F (Arg), Trucking (Arg), among others.

Our first local guest mix for the podcast 12 is Venus Melissa.

Venus Melissa is a visual artist, curator, and DJ. She has a multidisciplinary proposal that seeks new expressions and finds a medium in music. Her staging provides a sound journey between genres, in which house, electro, Italo funk, techno and trance predominate.

She's co-founder of the Vimana party, a collective that promotes safe spaces for women and dissidence within electronic music. She's also a member of the T4T collective, a movement that seeks the inclusion of trans people in the local artistic scene, being Melissa a key piece in the underground queer scene of the city of Asunción.

In 2022 the artist had several presentations at various events and clubs in the capital of Paraguay, including Tango Asunción, Café Salazar, Palo Santo, La Serafina, and Peach Club, in the latter being in charge of curating and organizing line ups.
