Daily demo tracks for the Jamuary challenge, wherein participants record and post a new "jam" each day. 

Every year, I set a sort of guiding title for this challenge, a mindset rather than a theme. For 2025, it's "Dig." Break the surface and poke around until I find something to excavate or react to or experiment with or smash to pieces. There's a universe beneath our immediate reality--treasures and vermin and caverns and horrors and relics and bones--but it takes that first spade strike and maybe a hundred more to catch a glimpse. My daily duty is to strike that soil and stone.

Just getting started is a victory. Seeing it through till there was something (rough) to put up is the icing. I'm out of practice all around. Even knowing the great things I can expect from Jamuary, trepidation is taunting me, yet I overcame, I showed up, and I will again tomorrow.

Away from home all day, I took a stab at doing it all in the phone: recording samples and gluing them together.

I was hoping to do something cheery. This is where I ended up. 
So far, JAMuary is delivering on the promise--I never know where I'll land, but I always end up with something as long as I start. 
Tools like iDS-10 are super interesting to work with because they force a very different way of organizing and effecting musical ideas. The limitations push me naturally into unexpected directions and inspirations.

With no idea where to start, I decided a descending 6th was as good a place as any.

With little time to begin with, I've fallen back into this incredibly unproductive pattern with a dreadfully inefficient workflow, and I end up with just a rather unfocused string of things. The sparks of excitement haven't lasted long. I'm not sure how to get back to the inspiration of the middle of the month. 
On a more positive angle, I continue to learn something every day.

Originally from various sides of various mountain ranges near and far from the sea, Pally's got the waves and the crags and the peaks and the plains, the evergreens and the waves of grain, the salty breeze and the fireflies deep in those bonny veins. A forever tanline from the Bible belt and bad winter skin ensure that every song's a lie, and every lie's the damndest truth, and any truth a pretentiousest overstatement.
