Music Is Medicine!

In December I was invited to Tulum to play at a event for a friends birthday, this trip also spawned into a New Years trip in Panama with some of my best friends from around the world.

The trip was challenging it was during the pandemic but nevertheless all precautions were taken. We had regular covid tests and keep our container safe.

2020 was a crazy year so when the music played it brought an energy and release that's hard to put into words. As lock down comes to an end and we approach the summer, I felt called to put together a completion mix of some of the tracks that I played which touched many people at different times during my month long trip.

Casco Sunsets (Jul 7, 2021)

This set means a lot to me. It was the opening performance for the new year's celebration at Eagle's Nest in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. The event was put together by the beautiful Octave Collective (thanks @karlimusik) and gathered some of my best friends from around the world. 

For this end of year, I had just come from processing a difficult time with my mom's health, and wanted to deliver a musical experience that celebrated her. For this reason, notice the two audio clips at the beginning and end of the set. The first, an invocation to teachers in our life called Sri Guru Pranam. My mom has taught me so much, and I dedicate my creative expression to her. It reads:

"I offer my respectful obeisances unto my spiritual master, who has opened my eyes, which were blinded by the darkness of ignorance, with the torchlight of knowledge."

The last track is a song I would play to her at the hospital. It's one of the most beautiful songs I know. It records the musical collaborations of cellist David Darling with the Wulu Bunun tribes of Taiwan. The song gives me hope of a better future, and always puts a smile on my face. 

Right before it, the second audio sample is a voice note I received the day before I last visited my mom back in Colombia. May this year carry her voice, and all of ours, together forward.

An Ode is a form of poetry such as sonnet or elegy. Ode is a literary technique that is lyrical in nature, but not very lengthy. You have often read odes in which poets praise people, natural scenes, and abstract ideas. It is an elaborately structured poem praising or glorifying an event or individual, describing nature intellectually as well as emotionally. A classic Ode is structured in three major parts: the strophe, the antistrophe, and the epode.

It was a Saturday afternoon, after a full day of dancing and connection we found ourselves going crazy to the tribal beats of Lemurian in The Dark Side Of The Moon stage. We witnessed how he controlled the crowd in ways we can't explain, we saw an intense ball of energy grow exponentially with every second of his set. We danced like there was no tomorrow.

It was beautiful. It was magic. And we can't be more happy today to be sharing this gift with all of you.

Despite the increased commercialism and popularity of Tulum, the magic does indeed still exist there, especially on the beach.  We certainly felt the energy during our Sol Selectas showcase, and the 5 days that followed, taking in the sunshine and positive vibes  this sacred land provides, to those who stop to be present, and listen.
