The fact that the previously vinyl-only Ron's Reworks edit series has finally landed on digital download is a very good thing indeed, especially since the man behind the project - nu-disco don Ron Basejam AKA Jim Baron of Crazy P - has been responsible for some fine re-edits over the years.  'Revelation' is a sparkling rearrangement of a life-affirming, piano-laden number that sits somewhere between jazz-funk, Latin jazz, spiritual jazz and disco.

After a little break while the world got turned upside down, Mow Records returns with its fourth release. Kicking off with a run of three amazing albums, Mow presents a various artists EP with Mowgan Ghenassia collaborating with four vibrant performers, each of whom brings their own distinct style to the release. 

Mama Africa was recorded in total reverence to the motherland, paying respect to its spirit through soulful and heartfelt recordings that tap into the continent’s lineage. Mowgan formed friendships with each of the artists featured, finding a strong connection with all four of them, which fed into their highly creative studio sessions.

The compilation features seven brand new cuts, including a solo track from Mowgan himself, plus collaborations with each of the four artists. Beginning with the title track ‘Mama Africa’. On this song Chanana talks about wars that he would like to stop. Asking the young people of Africa to wake up and train their consciousness on what’s going on all around their nation. Brother and sisters living in poverty, alcoholics, junkies, violence... Mama Africa your children cry, Mama Africa your women die, Mama Africa I fear for the blessing (Bless Mama Africa). A sultry groove supports Chanana’s authoritative vocals, with organic percussion and emotive instrumentation, which increases in intensity as the song progresses, with a moment of contemplation close to the end.

‘Sambé Sambé’ talks about the independence of African every year. People are saying ‘Same same’ to wish for it but sadly Africa is not really independent… This one has a traditional African rhythm and atmosphere, upbeat yet infused with a sense of melancholy. Mamadou’s vocals in particular have a subtle air of longing.

They say all good things must come to an end and Trash The Wax Vol. 9 has the honour of being our penultimate collection of dance floor heaters and beaters. Believe it when we say we're going out with an almighty kapow!

This ninth outing is packing fire with regular TTW providers such as Paper Street Soul kicking things off with a slab of post-punk electronica on 'Notes On You'. Picotropico has been drinking the same kool aid with the Talking Heads-esque 'Inmovil feat. Sima Itayim'.
 
If low-slung-chuggy-psych-acid-house is your bag then we've got you covered by Dan Wainwright, Coy Dog and James Rod who each crank up the ALFOS-o-meter to 11. House with disco tendencies gets fully represented here by Define, Gina D, Processman, J Kara, Dastardly Bounder and Flying Mojito Brothers who all guarantee a session kicking up dust on the dance floor.

Other Paper and TTW firm members The Secret Soul Society and Andy Buchan go for a housier hat throw into the ring on 'D For Damaga' and 'Road To Barca' whilst Jahn Solo drops an ultimate end of night feel good anthem on 'Dance For Me'.

'Dance Of The Apes' chugs into late night territory; with intoxicating swirling synths, ethnic percussion and a steamy ambience that drives the tension up. Gold Suite completes the Indonesian connection, the Bali based artist turns out a superlative reworking of 'Dance With The Apes'. With great musicality and structure, additional guitars and strings are brought to the fore making for an emotive and joyful finish to the release.

Juno Download review: Boblebad - that'll be Norwegian for 'hot tub' or 'jacuzzi', then - goes by the name of Ulf Moen Denneche in real life and hails, unsurprisingly, from Oslo. 

Here he comes to Citizens Of Vice with three tracks of (mostly) heavily electronic nu disco, with the title track a jaunty, lolloping affair sporting some Daft Punk-esque guitar flourishes, 'Just Think About That Feeling' a slightly deeper, spacier number built for late-hours play, and 'At The Beach' the quirkiest and least synth-tastic cut of the three with its sampled seaside sounds, insistent hand percussion, Spanish guitars and kiddy vox.

Mermaid is the lead off single from the upcoming "Datamusikk" EP on Beatservice, coming in June.

Oslo-based Boblebad aka Ulf Moen Denneche returns to Beatservice Records with his latest EP, Datamusikk. Having released a succession of standout singles, EPs, and albums across the past three years for the fellow Norwegian label, Boblebad serves up a cosmic whirlwind of polychromatic bliss with this latest four-track EP. Plotting a course through radiant funk, enchanting oddities, red light basement flavours, and cosmic disco it's a voyage of vibrance from the prolific multi-instrumentalist.

A true creative at heart, Boblebad is at home conveying ideas and emotion through the medium of visual art as he is crafting groove-laden sonic textures. Over the years his productions have found homes on respected dance music labels such as Badabing, Paper Recordings, and Full Pupp, with Beatservice becoming a favoured outlet for his genre-traversing creations.

Opening the EP, top-down cruising the solar highways, "Mermaid" layers sweeping synths with juiced-up basslines as young jazz singer Guro showcases a celestial debut of vocal prowess. Ethereal textures, dreamscape dynamics, this is the soundtrack to summer you never knew you needed.

Stomping through the dunes, the title track, "Datamusikk," follows. A squelched-up symphony of crunched gated snares, chugging bass, and desert rock guitar licks. Deep, powerful and alluring its grooves suck you in further with every second that passes.

Take to the flip for a dose of hypnotic, machine-melding stabs and Detroit-flavoured late-night feelings in the form of "You Got Me." A world of textural percussive hits and robot-infused Arps that deliver a commanding presence on the dancefloor.

Rounding off the EP, "Couchsurfer" exhibits Boblebad's future-facing, acid-tinged cosmic disco. Martian music with a human soul, modulating synth touches and a tantalising bassline floating out across the ether.

Four kinetic cuts that demonstrate the range and dynamism of Boblebad's productions for one of Norway's most consistent labels.

20 years marks the last output of A man called Adam, and this limited edition Vinyl sampler ‘Farmarama’ accomplishes a lot, skimming through a ludicrous amount of different styles, from Acid Jazz, smooth Balearic house, slow jams and everything in between.

Sally & Steve have also dusted off and polished their long held cult label ‘Other Records’ for the release. We’re totally unsure how after such a long hiatus it’s possible to get it quite so bang on, and fit seamlessly back with the musical landscape, and push things forward. This is probably one to be only pondered on by us mere mortals, as re-entries as smooth as this normally only can be architected by NASA. 

We’re premiering a Prins Thomas remix (Norwegian Golden Boy and all round superb producer) of ‘Paul Valery at the Disco’, who has given a more chilled world-y sound to an already very smooth and chilled disco cut. Think laidback percussion, a sauntering arrangement and a more lackadaisical approach to rhythm.

We’ve been excited about sharing this for weeks. Ray Mang’s jubilant remix of Falle & Soma World’s “Want This” for Adventures in Paradise has a timeless quality about it, Balearic disco grooves that just build and build, crowned by Falle’s joyous vocals. “Want This”  is destined to rule our kitchen & living room dancefloors until lockdown ends and we can all dance together again. 

Vocalist Falle Noike is an accomplished singer, songwriter and musician who has played throughout West Africa and the UK.  Currently getting significant play on 6 Music for a release he did with Ghost Culture.  Hailing from Guinea, West Africa, he sings in many languages - French, Susu, Fulani, Malinke and his mother tongue Coniagui.  As a well known singer in Guinea, he’s been performing for 10 years.  Since arriving in the UK in 2018, he’s been picked up by a number of producers, including Johan Hugo, Congo Natty and Sir Was.  Soma World is Josh Ludlow and Tom Green who initially met playing  in a teenage rock band. 15 years on they formed Soma World over a love of reverb and late night driving. Soma World is the output of their collaborative ambition to push boundaries and make music they will both appreciate for years to come. Their sound is a rich tapestry of their influences from John Maus to 10CC.

Released July 10 on vinyl and digital formats. This Vocal Mix of Mang’s remix will be exclusive to the digital release. The vinyl edition will include the exclusive extended remix, alongside instrumental remix and the original version.

An all-round production dynamo, the Oslo-based creator is equally adept at crafting immersive sonic textures as striking visual imagery, expertly functioning as an inspired musical producer as well as a painter and visual artist.

In the spring of 2021, the 37-year-old talent arrived on Beatservice with his label debut – the utterly compelling deep house/meta-disco hybrid, 'Vill Falafel'. His powerfully individual music has also found a home on numerous other highly-respected imprints, including Eskimo, Full Pupp, Paper Recordings, and Aquavit Beat, among others. With a stubbornly eclectic sound signature, Boblebad's genre-defying back-catalogue includes gorgeously emotive Balearic soundscapes, brooding deep house grooves, adventurous journeys into electronica, deviant contemporary disco refinement, and all things between.

On top of his prowess as a studio technician and visual artist, he also plays trombone for a cultured Afrobeat band, as well as in a rousing, jazz-inspired big band. Indeed, his musical roots run incredibly deep, and as a youngster, Ulf cut his performance teeth while playing in a marching band alongside none other than Håkon Vinnogg – better known as the one and only Vinny Villbass.
