Disturbing Clocks

This month’s Amulet of Tears mix comes from Istanbul-based artist Ekin Fil, which is veiled in reechoing wind, freefalling from misty sky. 

The mix embodies acoustic qualities over tangibility of the spatial structure of turbulence - the sound, which unites phenomena, a vast world in yielding shafts, pliant brims with billows - stream of rush-hour merged into a single point.

Alina Kalancea is a sonic alchemist who can warp and weave electronic
signals into complex tapestries of synthesized analog timbre. These
transportive environments were recorded using the artist's personal
collection of historic Buchla electronic music instruments including
Allen Strange's expanded Music Easel.
Letters Never Sent, Alina Kalancea's second full length for Imprec
follows 2021's double LP titled Impedance and is being released at the
same time as a new cassette titled Alchemy.
Kalancea's music has the ability to evoke both emotion and image;
feeling and landscape; passion and place. She described recording
Letters Never Sent as being like collecting images that are born in
your mind. Shades of sound, tone, color and feeling shape the
experience of listening to Kalancea's work.
Kalancea's work is made of malleable sonic material that never looks
or sounds the same way twice. Part of the magic of the music, and her
work is similar to ELEH in this way, is that her work leaves room for
the conscious and unconscious emotions of the listener. How you react
is partially a result of how you feel at the time.
Alchemy, Alina Kalancea's subsequent cassette being released
simultaneously, is a limited edition appendix to the album Letters
Never Sent.

Asher Levitas returns with the first chapter of his Beyond The Valley series, which is to feature unreleased and collaborative material. Beyond The Valley PT. I - Forest's Gate cuts through the greyscale everglade of his recordings for Planet Mu and the neon-lit cyberpunk pop of his production work on the last Paper Dollhouse album...

Across the first steps into this seven track valley, Asher creates a seamless mix of sounds that blur the edges of alien observation ambient and icy electronics. Those searching for reference points within the darkness will find similarities with the harmonic resonances of Sarah Davachi, the long-form drones of Grouper within the first unfolding minutes, while the latter half moves toward realms of frost bite starkness of Arv & Miljö and zoviet:france's cold water industrial. Echoes of Asher's past material as one third of Old Apparatus resonate through the undergrowth, yet the pathway Asher takes forward is one that carries with it an underlying sense of searching for escapism within the unknown...
