Brennan is a good pal, a fellow BMX enthusiast, and a terrific DJ & Producer. He was a natural for a first guest. In true fraternal Irish style Brennan broke my balls, but also graciously
helped with some of the arduous setup issues for this undertaking. He left with my studio keys (!), but also gave me the complete episodes of “Trailer Park Boys”, one of his native land’s
greatest cultural contributions. Special thanks to Tariq Abdus-Sabur and Sean Brennan for all their help on this, and for putting up with me & BG. A dive into "Hell Yeah Recordings" Italian label

There can't be many acts with as wide an appeal as Sheffield producer and artist Yarni. The late, great Andrew Weatherall was fond of dropping his tunes, Gilles Peterson and Luke Una are fans, and radio types Craig Charles and Huey Morgan are often known to slide one into their 6Music schedules.

He's just announced what he's calling his most ambitious project to date, "Anemoia," an album exploring the Greek concept of nostalgia for a time never known, collaborating with ten musicians and vocalists across ten tracks that weave disco, soul, jazz-funk, hip-hop and trip-hop into a thoroughly modern tapestry. "This isn't about recreating the past, but channeling its spirit into something new," he says.

It's set for an October release on Stanhope Records, with a string of teaser singles to keep an eye out for in the meantime. But us being the impatient types that we are, we persuaded him to take to the decks for a mix session right here, right now...

In The Mix: Yarni

After a rainy week, we finally got blessed with a sunny Sunday afternoon at Sisyphos - Berlin. I spun from 12:30 to 4 PM on the Strand Stage (the outdoors one). The dancefloor was pure joy and it let me play a bit more on the trippy edge (which made me happy). 
No flat terrain ride here—just pure vibes and good times :)

Mysterious Scottish producer Otherlover is out for revenge with this tasty 10-inch slice of deepness on Razor-N-Tape Reserve! The A side works an obscure Steve Winwood sample into looped perfection, building slowly to a synth boogie climax, with the B side dubbing things out a bit more. You need this one - no backchat!

The global sound of house music is alive and well and here’s the proof with our first signing from Indonesia. Double Deer’s Kimo brings four tracks of crisp deepness and vibe heavy disco that absolutely smashes it.

First up Born Out is a bonafide disco thumper that builds around live drums, a nagging disco bass and acid line before the tension is released to an incessant piano riff and swooping strings. Then it’s mayhem as the chord changes and arps add to the mix as it drives to the peak. This has been road tested by the Paper DJs over the past few months and never fails to take the roof off.

Bow Down is a change of pace and features Kal with a super hooky vocal. It’s a fusion of the Far East and balearica with Kimo's trademark arps and dance floor dynamics. There are guitars and synth lines a plenty plus Rhodes and live drums that steadily suck you in to a hazy world of space disco.

Whirl takes a more hypnotic route that is nailed down by a cowbell and analogue bass. Gamelan steel drums give it that evocative Eastern flavour as it hypnotises you in to a delayed break when things get serious. The riff keeps on with leads, pads and synths for a track that is fresh, dancefloor heavy and dripping in atmosphere.

Finally First Kick is a more straight forward house track with a riffing organ that develops in to pushing synth and walking bass for middle of the night head down tackle.
