The Tromsø Collective Vol. 2 once again shines a light on Tromsø, the world's most Northern city. The modern Norwegian dance scene was born there and it was home to Bjørn Torske, Rune Lindbaek and Mental Overdrive. 

But it is time for the old guard to make room for the new generation.

Third Attempt has been going guns on Beatservice and here serves up two cuts of brilliant nu-disco. Push takes a loop and nails it to the floor as the grooves is driven in to the late night. One for the dancers.

Another producer on the make is Keecan, who delivers near perfect nu-disco with Gone. A popping baseline, vocal sample and filtered synth keeps it the right side of deep but with plenty of soul and kick.

Diskotek skips along with live bass and guitar for an early night floor filler and guaranteed smiles all round.

Finally Define Jazz brings the melancholy and deepness before breaking to a heavy swing, acid bass and a touch of Wild Pitch. Touches of effects and stabs give it a that wonky Nordic edge.

One of our earliest and best finds has got to be our Norweigan maestro, Third Attempt. He's back this Friday with an exquisite, laid-back, easy listening triphop album. Breathable to the fullest, 'Air' eases us into a moody balearic jazz space with finely woven flights of languid trumpets and polychromatic pads.

ACUÑA PREMIERE: Third Attempt - Air [Beatservice Records]

This premiere is for the House Music heads out there: Italian DJ and producer Nnatn makes his debut on Night Vibez Records, an (also) Italian label devoted to all shades of the beloved good ol’ genre. From Soulful and Deep to Breakbeat and Acid, you can find some proper anthems in their growing catalogue.

Nnatn, in turn, was born in Italy in the early nineties and grew up nourished with big fat portions of classic House, Disco, and Afro. He started to produce in 2015 and has remained hard to pin down stylistically. His “Grooves – Pt. 1” is a five-track EP (all originals – competently crafted, by the way) in which you can easily notice the use of the aforementioned influences of his childhood.

Reviewed here, the Kerri Chandler-esque “Groovin Magic”, a bumping and sparkling theme with a beefy bassline, a colourful piano layer, an emotive synth pad, and an upbeat message: It’s as if the tune is trying to say, even without lyrics, “Hey, champ, tough times, but chin up, will you?”. A small dose of good vibes might be all we probably need today, isn’t it?

Delfonic, is as versatile and informed a DJ who will hit you with his experienced, flawless flow and the skills of a Hip Hop veteran with an openminded music taste, including grooves from Jazzy Vibes, Disco, House, Breaks and Afro Grooves.
He now holds down residencies at Paloma Bar and Club Gretchen while frequenting the Berlin leading venues like Salon zur wilden Renate, Heideglühen, Toy Tonic Jams to name a few.
In 2019, Delfonic left his beloved store OYE Records after 15 years and started to work as A&R/Labelmanager for Wordandsound/whatpeopleplay.

Paper has been pushing all things deep house and disco from the furthest reaches of the world via the good old North of England since the early Nineties.

The label has already featured a new series of EP's showcasing the best new dance music and future funk, house and disco from the world's finest producers.

We kicked off in 1994, leading the upsurge in popularity of UK house music within an underground scene previously dominated by a soundtrack from US cities like Chicago, Detroit and New York. Enhanced by a strong visual identity, as well as impeccable musical quality control PAPER was, and is one of the world’s most treasured record companies.

It continues to be funk-fuelled and bottom heavy!
