“wildstyle” is a song about love at first sight. It showcases a girl who joined a sight-seeing tour in Medellín and captured the attention of everyone around. The whole song is told from a hypothetical standpoint as fear of rejection, anxiety, and shyness overpowered the feelings of love at first sight.

The title of the track references the complicated and intricate form of graffiti called wildstyle. The significance of this being that this art style is present all across Medellín’s streets. The song talks about the Graffitour, an incredible experience that takes everyone through a place historically known as the most violent place in South America. It shows every traveler how, through street art and music, a community has renovated itself and found peace.

“Tell Me” is a song about falling out of love but still caring and worrying for one’s partner. It is an acoustic melancholic track that was written in less than an hour and was inspired by rocky moments in a relationship.

It all captures the struggle of realizing the relationship wasn’t meant to be but at the same time feeling unable to express those thoughts due to the fear of watching the person you care so much for, hurt. The song ends with no resolution and only confusion, as it presents the struggle of staying in the relationship or leaving.

Tell Me

5MTM is a rock ballad that details the struggles of moving on from someone you loved dearly. It shows how the memories of this person still affect you every day and how difficult it is to move on.

“Agelaius” marks the first collaboration between Colombian songwriter and guitarist FGV and electronic composer and EDM producer Conradaxx. A song about life, love, and destiny, this cyberpunk track organically combines FGV’s edgy guitar licks and floating, soulful vocals with Conradaxx’s synth-driven production style and sharp drum and bass work.   

The lyrics and title draw inspiration from the east-asian belief of the red string of faith where it’s thought that the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles or fingers of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation. In this situation, the two destined lovers are brought together by an Agelaius -an American blackbird with a red stripe in its wing- which represents the red string.

“Coda” is the day view single of Colombian singer-songwriter and guitarist FGV. An epic symphonic rock piece that details how one can fall back into darkness as one remembers mistakes of the past, and how a past lover can still haunt us. The song itself can be considered as the second part of FGV’s first demo “Tell Me,” a song that details a breakup and how even after growing apart from the significant other, one only hopes they’re okay.

Coda

Hailing from Medellín Colombia, Paper Orchids is the music project from Federico García Vélez who started playing guitar at the age of 8. Ever since then, the world of rock, metal, punk, and pop has revolved around him.
