Smack bang in the middle of a pandemic after almost a year of no gigs, Lachy Doley decided to get all his favourite people together and record and film something really special.
On his 43rd birthday they played 2 big sets in front of an audience of 20 at Sydney’s iconic Studios 301. A four piece horn section, three piece vocal section, his brother Clayton guesting on piano, two feature lead tracks one by Mahalia Barnes and one by Karen Lee Andrews. All together a killer 14 piece band and a new highlight of Lachy’s career.

Hey everyone. 2024 is coming. I sincerely hope that it will be a good year for everyone. I uploaded my performance of this song here because I wanted my friends to know that the gut strings on my electric acoustic guitar have finally calmed down. The strings have become accustomed to the guitar and I no longer hear any squeaks. Do not you think so? 

I chose this song because it's one of the songs I always play when tuning my guitar. Just set the capo on the 7th fret and play a simple chord like D, G, A7 or D, G, E and you're done. I'm a beginner when it comes to nylon string guitars, so this would be the perfect song for me to try out. I would like all of you who are practicing guitar to take this opportunity to master it. Also, I recently learned that this work, one of The Beatles' works, became the most listened to song of The Beatles' works on Spotify in 2021. It's a work that is popular all over the world.

When I listened to the recorded version myself, I was surprised at how simple it was, with no drums or bass, just a nylon string guitar solo. Should I play it again later with a pick and re-record it, or should I play it very slowly and re-record it, or should I change the position of the capo tasto and change the key of the performance? I had a lot of hesitation, but I decided to leave it as is, thinking that this was a record of me practicing to get used to playing the nylon string guitar and sharing it with you all. In other words, rather than getting confused at this stage, if you could sing along with this recording out loud, the weakness of this recording being too simple and lonely would be quickly overcome. I realized that it would be better to move on to the next step as soon as possible. So, I started thinking that my next step would be to try playing this nylon string guitar along with someone's amazing vocals on SoundCloud.

In a dream-like world this track finds it's place, in a way it made me think of the surrealist works from the twentieth century by artists like Dali, Magritte, de Chirico, and Dutch painter Carel Willink, for whose nephew I have worked as architect. My friend and close collaborator @rplanes offered me this great arrangement and the title and theme that he thought might make an interesting subject matter. Initially, I was scratching my head as the topic seemed too vast but then the ideas started to attach themselves to his melodies and I was hooked. Humans en masse appear to be taking wrong-turnings and making things worse rather than better. This is me letting off a little steam with Rod's help. Thanks for taking the time to listen.
