Sinopsys:

The creative idea for this piece comes from the word “Plasma” that is often called the "Fourth State of Matter". Plasma is a distinct state of matter containing a significant number of electrically charged particles, a sufficient number  to affect its electrical properties and behavior. Plasma also refers to the liquid component of blood that holds the blood cells in suspension. Energy, thunder and blood inspired my composition process. I started by recording some sounds with a new percussion instrument, called “Sinori”, a thunder-sheet, that have been processed with these images in my mind.

Created in 2011 within the institution's cutting-edge studios, these pieces are united by their deep engagement with spatial sound as a compositional material and their use of ZKM’s proprietary software, Zirkonium, for 48-channel spatialization.

Striping Strings and Broken Objects is an act of sonic archaeology. It begins with the intimate, material presence of a prepared piano, a nod to experimental tradition, and subjects it to a rigorous process of granular decomposition and spatial scattering. It is a study in entropy and transformation, where every string scrape and resonant fragment is magnified and set adrift in a immersive loudspeaker orchestra.

These compositions are not merely "recorded"; they are documentations of performances within a specific architectural and technological environment, the 48-loudspeaker dome of ZKM. The stereo versions presented here are careful reductions of the original multichannel works, which were designed to be experienced in a dedicated sound diffusion space.

Striping strings and broken objects 2011 Hugo Paquete

This audio work is based on the context of life and its connection with negentropy. Life forms, from the simplest single-celled organisms to complex ecosystems, appear to defy the tendency by maintaining and increasing order within themselves organizing, structuring and maintaining system’s processes in a state of low disorder-entropy. Theta grows as a sound that takes care of itself, takes energy and transform it, changes shape, moves towards entropy but returns on its centrality as a founding element of its acoustic life. The path that it takes could be direct or indirect but the thing that characterizes it is the return to life. In the silence, defined directional sounds stand out, overlapping, sliding, chasing each other and expanding in different registers, crea ng formal tensive architectures and drawing imaginary landscapes in black and white in which the pointillistic elements and the sound bands defined arches of heavenly or infernal cloisters surrounded by some mes smooth, some mes historiated trellises. The parameter of time becomes a parchment on which a spatialization is carved that illuminates and sets sound events characterized by their own virtual autonomy, sound events that whisper, that pass through us, that leave us.

Love Song

In Hyperloop I manipulated different sounds that I recorded from sealed tubes and system of tubes with low air pressure. I decided to use “glissando” as a metaphor for speed. This work is composed by four parts: A-B-A'-B'. This macrostructural organization allowed me to think about it as an infinite loop.

This piece includes recordings made at The Dutch Support for Taksim Occupy on the 9th of June, 2013. I interviewed individuals, asking them to answer, more with their heart then their ratio, the question of why they were demonstrating in Amsterdam, including how they experienced the distance between the two cities, Amsterdam and Istanbul. I also made recordings of the chanting and singing of myself and the demonstrators. 

Performative sounding, writing history with our voices. Excerpts of chanting, singing and personal statement are used in this piece.

This piece was made with love, hope and some tears.

Methods used:
The sound art piece contains audio from two different recording moments:
One occurred on the morning of the 9th of june, 2013, at the Dutch Support for Taksim Occupy demonstration in Amsterdam. I modified one short response, in Turkish, and excerpts of the singing and chanting with the Monolake Granulator in Ableton Live before incorporating them into the work. 

A couple of days later I recorded myself early one morning, writing my dreams in pencil in my journal, an intimate moment of reflection. I stroked the pillow I was using to support my writing and spoke insights and short particles of language into the microphone.

Bits and scraps of sounds were generated with four different MIDI instruments created with Sculpture, Logic's physical modelling synthesiser.

The final mix, with time stretching and effects, was made in Logic 9.

Hugo Paquete music exists at the intersection of sound and computation. Through a practice of blending granular textures, algorithms, and spatial audio, his work navigates the space between post-techno drive and experimental sound art. Each release is a sonic system, an ecology of rhythm, noise, and resonance co-composed by machine precision and human perception.

Expect deep noise textures, speculative synthesis, audiovisual fusions, and sonic reflections on a post-human future.
