Beirut’s Bachir Salloum continues a prolific run of high-quality releases and label debuts, joining Akbal Music with four-tracker ‘Everything Is Now’. The rising talent hasn’t looked back since early support from Black Coffee, Damian Lazarus, Patrice Bäumel, Henry Saiz and more launched his international career.
The EP has a deliberately varied range of moods. ‘I wanted to create a variety of choices from intro tracks to bridge and peak time slots,’ says Bachir, whose sets deftly balance melody with emotion. 
‘Everything Is Now’ has an intriguing, slow start with mingling elements scattering impressions, picking up the pace with thoughtful piano fragments introduced during the extended breakdown. A more ambient contribution to the EP. 
‘Eclipse’ lays down a relentless percussive groove riffing on the central melody, with some growling synths and menacing horns in the background, gradually gaining in speed and force.  
‘Sunflower Fields’ starts with shaking maraccas and light bongo percussion, giving a sunny feel, before a complex bass riff kicks in, followed by a melody on pizzicato strings from the breakdown onwards. More of a rollocking pace to this one, a versatile track for your feet as much as your ears. The LADS remix brings humming, melancholic synth chords to the fore, with distant voices of children at play juxtaposed with them in the extended breakdown. 
‘I used the moog Sub 37 to write the main melodies for ‘Everything Is Now’ including omnisphere supporting pads and TR8 for drums. With ‘Sunflower Fields’ I used the TR8 to focus more on the groove. With ‘Eclipse’ I had the melody playing in my head one night in quarantine while I was sleeping; I woke up and wrote it straight away, then built the track around it.’
An alumnus of Beirut’s famous club scene, Salloum’s new EP is a worthy successor to his 3rd Avenue debut, joining imprints like Balance and Juicebox Music in his impressive back catalogue. Several more exciting releases are planned for this summer too, as his relentless rise continues.

A musical triptych flows from the fingertips of about : river as he delivers "Go Into the Mist". From his Estonian home, Oleg Ivanov has carved out a name for himself with a unique approach to electronic music and "an ear for the cinematic". Making his Particles debut with a beautifully evocative interpretation of Davide Ferrario's "End of an Era", about : river now returns as "Go" revels in a distinctive atmosphere that centres around a clever bassline and dynamic melodic sequence. A shaker-fuelled groove and off-beat clap add to a vibrant rhythmic collage as a beautiful piano motif adds to the overall character at the breakdown. "Into" continues the innovative aural character with a beautifully arranged musical collage that floats across 7-minutes with coruscating arpeggios and counterpoint synth lines weaving in and out of each other in intricate sonic patterns. A broken beat rhythm adds further to the fresh and vibrant sound while anchoring the musical components expertly in place. "The Mist" completes the picture with another subtle breakbeat foundation before a sublime piano sequence runs across the piece in melancholic fashion. A plucked synth line then glides delicately above in sensitive counterpoint tension resulting in a genuinely moving end to the triptych.

From the banks of the Rhine in north-western Switzerland, Dandara has been a renowned name in the Electronica and Organic House genres for over five years since a 2014 debut on UOVOOO. Since going on to feature on the likes of Sol Selectas, Underyourskin and Lump Records, the Swiss star has continued to make a name for himself on his own eponymously named imprint while making a significant impact on Spotify with over 160,000 monthly streams. Making his Particles debut, the Dandara remix of "Into" is a typically creative interpretation that combines elements from about : river's original with a rich array of additional production work. Adding a 303 inspired bassline, an ethnic vocal cut makes its presence felt while spiky analogue synth plucks create a dynamic new cadence. Harnessing the essence of the original, Dandara's skill is to create a powerful club-friendly interpretation that is a potent addition to the Particles catalogue.

A firm favourite on the Particles roster, Michael Chihaka has been a regular on the imprint since a debut remixing Aeikus' "Juno" in September 2019. Since then two original EPs have lit up the label with October 2020's "Nyara" and May 2020's "Pinda" showcasing six original tracks and Chihaka's indisputable talent. Since then, remixes for Pole Folder and Ric Niels have shown another side to the South African's talent as he now returns to remix "Go". Creating an exquisite groove that firmly echoes the original, the central motif immediately provides sonic familiarity and cadenced foundation to his rework. A heavy beat and off-beat percussion add rhythmic force and a hypnotic syncopated synth line creates an evolving sound in the third movement.

Through a powerful musical narrative, about : river has hit new heights with his "Go Into the Mist" EP, richly complemented by Dandara and Chihaka.

Fresh new talent from Switzerland and resident of  Nordstern Basel Club, Olivan is a name to watch in the near future. Recently he delivered the beautiful Anafra EP on Ouie Circle label  by Acid Pauli & Nico Stojan. 

Oh his debut EP on Akbal Music, Olivan has created three original master pieces taking them all into different states of mind, he has remained faithful to his musical style at all times. His roots in drumming are recognizable in all three productions through several live percussion recordings. 

Autoscopia is a trippy track. Starting with a  simple groove and mutating to a driving melancholic journey  main with some synths they will take you to a parallel universe. 

Contra Mova a powerful  track accompanied by sampled guitars and driving live percussions. The track is underlined by a strong synth  element and a deeper hypnotic vocal. 

To finish the record, The Riff is a straight forward track with a more techy character. Repetitive guitar riffs, and some quiet guitar plucking comes back aggressively to another wave after the breakdown.
