Brooklyn based Mike Isai joins the onedotsixtwo family with two red-hot progressive gems, Alya and Chrysalis.  Fellow New Yorker and ODST alumni, Mir Omar, takes on Alya, while Aussie legends GMJ & Matter give us their unique take on Chrysalis making this a complete onedotsixtwo family release. 

Although a relatively new name on the progressive scene, Mike Isai has certainly hit the ground running, with highly praised releases on the legendary Hope Recordings, and a recent EP on current label du jour Meanwhile Recordings. Growing up in New York Mike was exposed to electronic music from a very early age via his siblings who introduced him to Sasha, Digweed, Danny Tenaglia and the like and soon after, at the age of sixteen, decided he wanted to create his own sounds and hasn’t looked back since. 

First up is ‘Alya’ with an infectiously deep groove, shimmering keys and understated yet powerful acid undertones. ‘Chrysalis’ follows with a growling energy and tribal rhythms complimented by atmospheric hypnotic chants and sweeping effects. Mir Omar takes on Alya to great effect, adding intricate layers of percussion and brining a peak time feel to the piece. GMJ & Matter tackle Chrysalis bringing their signature euphoric big room sound and rounding off a stunning EP in style.

Travis Jesse has made quite a stir from his adopted Argentinean home. A relative newcomer to the underground dance scene, April 2020's 5-track "Solandra" EP showcased the native Australian's production skills.

Going onto feature on the likes of 3rd Avenue, AH Digital and Mistique Music, Jesse's Particles debut opens with "Salvage". Redolent in deep rolling groove and heavy beat, melodic flourishes revel alongside panned synth and thickly layered pads. A glorious collage of sounds thus builds amidst dancefloor rhythm in a track that showcases effortless craftsmanship. The picture book "Wildflower" continues the head-shaking rhythmic cadence while a subterranean bass groove anchors a symphony of melodic touches. Blossoming through the beatless breakdown, delayed piano and reverse reverb vocal breaths jostle gently against gently pulsing pads in waves of sonic bliss.

Another artist who has made Buenos Aries his adopted home, Andrea Cassino's association with Particles stretches back to an August 2011 remix of Alessando Diga. A further six reworkings have graced the Particles catalogue while original music in the shape of 2017's "Divine", 2020's "Losing Part of Me" and October 2021's "Asante" have graced Proton Music. Having previously made a name for himself as one half of the Cassino & Laben duo, the Italian born artist now returns to Particles with a typically powerful remix of "Salvage". Driving forwards with a dynamic 16th note bass pattern, white noise washes and clicking, popping percussion lay the foundation for the sumptuous melodic phrasing from Travis Jesse's original to flow across the near 9-minute interpretation. Familiar refrains continue to please while Cassino's trademark sonic layering and silky-smooth pads add elegance and class in bountiful measures.

Another relative newcomer, Mauro Masi is the third artist to ply his trade from South America. A proponent of deep and progressive house, the Argentinean has quickly found his feet within the underground dance fraternity after an August 2019 debut on Mystic Carousel Records. Further work has since graced the likes of Flug Lab, Balkan Connection and Nick Lewis's Emotional Content Recordings. Now making his Particles debut, the Mauro Masi remix swims in joyous melodic harmony as refrains from "Wildflower" fizz and ripple across a cascading array of new production material. New motifs hypnotise in gentle repetition, surrounded by a chunky rhythmic framework and deep kick. Building in subtly overlapping sonic layers, new melodies blend seamlessly with Travis Jesse's work. The result is an ingenious and innovative new arrangement that encapsulates the Mauro Masi production sound.

Able to "Salvage" a treasure trove of sonic jewels, Travis Jesse is ably assisted by Andrea Cassino and Mauro Masi.

Music to make people dance with big smiles on their faces. With a penchant for strong groovy base and melodies with "a nice bit of tension", Arkadyan and Demayä set about work on their collaborative EP Esperanza: “In an early mix of the title track, we used a sample of Manu Chao’s voice, saying ‘esperanza, esperanza’, but a chance encounter in Dubai with mezzo soprano vocalist Yana Mann changed the course of the E.P. Inspired by the trumpet melody and the beat, Yana Mann came up with a vocal line and the result was a one-shot success. One enlightening taxi ride with Jean Claude Ades later and things started falling into place. The result is a miniature collection of “octopus rhythms”, with organic percussion and electronic beats jostling for attention with a plethora of live instruments and on-the-road pocket-mic field recordings.

The ‘Realm Of Consciousness’ voyage commences with Tale Of Us’ Lies - a fitting introduction with
quivering keys and restrained percussion that engenders an ominous suspense ahead of Monoloc’s
enigmatic industrial techno crunch, Phoenix. Shifting through the haunting chords of Recondite’s dynamic
Murphy’s Law, to the brooding synth of Poseidon by Ukrainian duo Woo York, the realisation of Afterlife
utopia is upon us. The repetitive, mesmerising synth and effective reverb that Somne creates with Triangle
is an odyssey within itself. From there, John Hester’s expertly woven ‘Logan’ is a feverish techno stab that
transverses through the emotional senses, transitioning to Locked Groove’s adroitly crafted Emeralds, to
Ryan James Ford’s ambient, albeit percussive, techno cut Toree Bahrstad. Die Wiederkehr is the outcome
of Obscure Shape & SHDW’s collaboration, which incorporates facets of techno and trance that have
been shaped with real guile and finesse. Mind Against round off the compilation with Gravity - a
mystifying ambience and a fitting title as we touch back down to planet earth.

A product of the jewel-encrusted mines of Russia's underground dance scene, Arthur Minnahmetov has discovered a rich seam of form in a short two-year period that now culminates with the "Oblivion" EP on Particles.

Calling Yelabuga, on the right bank of the Kama River, home, Minnahmetov was first "exposed to electronic music" in the 1990s as the seismic transformation in Russian mass media at that time saw his tastes begin to manifest themselves through listening to electronic oriented shows that began to hit radio stations across the country. However, it was not until the early years of the new millennium that Minnahmetov's predilections eventually crystallised into a penchant for the underground progressive sound which has become a staple feature of his work.

Understanding the processes and principles behind production techniques took some time to master and it was not until 2007 that Minnahmetov began to experiment with his own compositions. Thus, it was mid-2014 that saw a debut release on Balkan Connection's BC2 imprint via the "Mantra" EP. Since then, well over a century of production credits have passed through the catalogues of some of the finest modern labels as legion original works have found their way onto the likes of Suffused Music, Dopamine and Nuevadeep. The December 2016 "Everest" EP for Pineapple Digital also saw an excursion to a stronger melodic and trance flavoured sound.

A trio of credits have found themselves breaking into Particles, with "Fomo" hitting the "Summer 2015" compilation and "High Line" and "NY Zombie" featuring on the "Fall 2015" edition. It is therefore with great pleasure that we welcome Arthur Minnahmetov and his "Oblivion" EP to the label.

Opening proceedings, "Hole" is full of the rhythmic and melodic sensibilities that ripple through the Russian's work as a hypnotic groove nestles elegantly against a driving beat and tempo-synchronised pad and white noise effects. Evolving delicately over the course of its eight-minute voyage, a sublime twinkling lead makes its presence felt in evocative fashion from the breakdown onwards, while a swathe of additional production material is layered expertly to create a melodic collage that is testament to Minnahmetov's production credentials.

The title track itself is a strong groove-oriented affair that sparkles across chunky laid-back, rhythmic foundations. A dominant kick anchors while a freeform melody and gated pad effect give identity to the "Oblivion" nomenclature. A breakdown full of stereo-panned percussive toms and white-noise risers gives way to a third movement that retains the overall rhythmic bed, while delicate layers of additional production material provide a continual evolution of a carefully constructed and impressive piece.

Stretching onwards toward "Oblivion", Arthur Minnahmetov's music continues to break new ground, reaching new heights in the process.

Exclusive Cornucopia - Orion

Cornucopia returns to microCastle for the third time and starts 2020 for the Canadian based label. His latest contribution to the label is Rivers of Memories, a three tracker, which does as its title suggests, it flows down the dance floor avenue. The EP's closer Orion is no exception and probably delivers the most decent yet classy chord arrangement to create an intriguing piece of music, which stays-plays with people's emotions for as long as it lasts and beyond. A lush bassline as well as flickering partly implemented background sounds add Orion even more character as the track's second part of the 8:22 minutes is enriched with icy chord passages that tickle the listener like sharp icicles.

Cornucopia's EP River of Memories will be released on microCastle on March 6th, 2020.
