数年来、子守歌というジャンル、及びそれらが脈々と受け継がれてきた口頭伝承という形態における情報の「曖昧さ」と「精確さ」の共存に興味を持っています。今作は現代におけるこのジャンルに再びアプローチしようと試みたものです。所謂スコアはなく互いのパート譜のみが存在し、3種類のリズム、4種類のテンポ、42種類のネウマなどのパラメータ間でゆりかごのように絶えず揺れ動きながら「旋律」を紡ぎ続けるリコーダーと、「伴奏」に徹し全く独立した時間を淡々と切り取り続ける尺八が重ね合わされた音楽を目指しています。 タイトルの《犬と狼の間に》は「黄昏時」を意味し、「犬と狼の見分けがつかなくなるほどの暗さ」に由来します。2世紀のヘブライ語のテキストに端を発し、今日でもフランスなどで用いられている非常に古い表現ですが、今作では特定の時間帯や動物の音楽的描写を意図した訳ではありません。見た目や音域の類似性を持ちながらもその素材や歴史、内在する時間構造において決定的な違いを持つ2本の管楽器それぞれのイディオムやアイデンティティが、そして人の数だけ異なる個々の時間感覚や身体性が常に共存し、時には思い掛けず同調しうることで、不確定・不安定な全体像の輪郭が剥き出しになるのではないかと考え、その曖昧さにおいて今作と共鳴するものを感じたためタイトルに採り上げました。
