The Skeptics were one of the most interesting and forward thinking NZ post-punk bands of the 1980s that made creative use of the early sampling technology, and were perhaps best known for their track 'AFFCO', from their album 'Skeptics III', along with its graphic and controversial video.

This is a bootleg remix made (mostly) using samples from 'Skeptics III' that I worked on for a bit of fun during my recent EU tour. It felt like the perfect place to source samples from because there are so many moods and textures packed in to each individual track - for me this record really does stand out amongst the entire Flying Nun discography.

This is the last release for this year.
Claptone opened 2012 with the Beatport Top10 track 'Cream' which has become our most succesful tune on Exploited.
Since then, Claptone has conquered hearts from clubbers and DJs worldwide.

South London / Brighton producer and Patchbay family member Obzerv has stepped up to deliver the first in our Isolation Series with his experimental Meditation Mix. Including a collection of raw unmixed and unreleased soundtrack ideas and very early electro tracks produced back in 2018. 

“A year later in 2019, as I was going through my old files, I found these tracks and decided to create a mixtape with them. I recorded the mix using my DDJ-RB controller and created some visuals to bring the mix to life. The video has different sections and depicts stories of present alien lifeforms finding new planets, as well as the destruction of planets and the birth of new life. I want the viewers to create stories of their own based on whatever they feel when watching.”

London producer and Patchbay representative Process has provided the second instalment in our Isolation Series with his dark eclectic selection for his ‘Disconnected Sequence’ mix. Read more about his tune selection below. Listen carefully for some unreleased tracks dropping on Patchbay in the near future. 

“My first interest in electronic music started with dubstep, so I thought it would be nice to pay a bit of homage to my 140 influences, seeing how they have evolved into my tastes as they are today. The song selection is just a bunch of really cool stuff that I'm listening to at the moment, with a couple of classics thrown in here and there. Whenever I'm DJing at home I can't help but give in to my ADHD nature so you may feel the styles shifting a lot as I dart between different moods, but I tried to keep it within the 130-160bpm range. As a DJ I want to take my listeners on a journey and show them something they might not have been expecting, because for me, that's when the magic really happens.”

Skenghis Kahn - Fruity Wee Panpipe (04:29)

Born in London and residing in Brighton, producer Skenghis Kahn joins us this weekend in lockdown to provide an original track for our isolation series titled ‘Fruity Wee Panpipe’. A delicious experimental number for all you alternative electronic heads.

Producing with his collective South.wav Peoples Party, a Brighton based collaborative multi-media platform, Skenghis Kahn describes his production as an “attempt at remediating my understanding of how leftfield and experimental sound opens pathways for alternative, abject ideation.” He aims to push “against normality in sound, resulting in alternative thinking and political engagement.” 

Fucking nicely said mate.

South London artist and daredevil babyfacekay is “taking time off from rapping and vocals to recover from being a madman.” But his spaced out alternative production still lives on.

His sound is original and authentic and could go any which way presenting an alternative approach in every sense but deep roots from all genres. “I listen to and I’m inspired by all types of music and other art-forms. One day It’s Clairo and Thundercat the next it’s Skepta and Lancey Foux etc.” This is clearly shown as babyfacekay exposes his raw versatility in his first EP 4moi. “I just go off feeling most of the time when producing or writing songs and not try too hard. Whatever comes out, comes out even if it has mistakes. Sometimes the ‘mistakes’ make the sound what it is. I like song’s that make me go wtf or who tf is this?! In a good way and so I incorporate things that come off extraterrestrial.”

Dooley - Reflection Mix

Raising the tempo with this submission, Dooley steps up to deliver the finest in 90’s jazzy drum and bass with his 40minute section for our Isolation Series. 

Inspired by ‘the early 90’s UK drum and bass scene’, Dooley tell us he tries to look past the ‘London clubbing scene’ and explore the original sounds that ‘kickstarted the energy and dynamism of Londons real alternative electronic culture.’ Understanding the technicality and passion that caused this genre to rise, his selection seeks to ‘reflect back to the days where party goes looked up the the sound systems and party organisers, building up a diverse culture of dodging laws to keep the party alive’.

Another standout track from the recent Sunburst Band album is the boogiefied house cut ‘Definition of Luv’ featuring Diane Charlemagne. 

Rising star Sean McCabe once again comes through with a brilliant remix adding his trademark deep and soulful house sound using Diane’s vocals to great effect. His Main mix is one for the soulful house heads while his Definition of Dub goes a bit deeper and dubby.

As always Joey Negro turns in his own extended album mix and Dubstrumental stretching out the original making the most of the 80's style synth parts.
