The last couple of years have seen D.K. emerge at the centre of a new age, ambient laced and misty sonic sphere. Taking cues from boogie and synth pop, house and funk, the Frenchman’s subtly soothing sounds have come mostly on Antinote and sound at once nostalgic but also forward looking. Musical and lush, dreamy and balearic, it is music for warm climates and laid back moments in your life. 

And so is the mix he has put together for us: over the course of ninety minutes it takes you from the hammock to the beach bar and on to the club. Starting with the sort of smooth and serene sounds you would expect, things get crunchier and more hard hitting as you move along through prickly house, wild analogue jams and trippy four thumpers.

Hailing from the Netherlands and now based in Berlin, Nick Lapien (@lapien) is a DJ and producer whose sounds encapsulate delicate and detailed grooves, combined with an unwavering understanding of what makes dance floors oscillate. Perhaps best known as one half of Artefakt (@artefakt-official) alongside @cyspe (aka Robin Koek), Lapien has also enjoyed a prolific solo career, with releases on labels such as Fred P’s @soul-people-music, DVS1 ’s Mistress Records and Radio Slave’s @rekids. Although recent years have seen him focus mostly on his work with Artefakt, early 2019 saw a return to solo form for him with a stunning debut EP on cult Moroccan label Tikita (@tikitarec).

Lapien's Patterns of Perception 53 is a rhythmic excursion that journeys between deep, percussive grooves and mind expanding house-oriented reflections, both punctuated and anchored by the understated energy and momentum that he calls his own.

Even the longest night comes to an end, even the mightiest of storms settles down. And the sun shines through, and the warmth touches your longing body inviting to start anew. We will meet again to dance again, while peacefully shedding a tear. The mourning of loved ones and the time taken away will pass, the heartache will remain. Sill the better future awaits, full of tears of joy and time together again. I only wonder when?
