Dutchman @spekkiwebu likes to take you to moments of sonic spiritualism. His take on electronic music is as a soundtrack to mind-expanding space travel and internal reflection. His Mirror Zone label has become home to some of the sound's best new artists, often with a psychedelic edge. Webu's extraterrestrial selections also reach into Goa, jungle and breakbeat, all of which add widely varied tones, textures and tempos to his storytelling mixes.
 
Initially, this week's podcast is a deeply immersive trip through the farthest reaches of our universe. After spending time with only alien life forms and solar winds for company, sleek techno rhythms slowly take hold. Says Spekki, "Taking you all on a journey to your inner self. Self-healing is what we need in these times. In order to see the light, we must first embrace the darkness. A balanced journey through meditative vibrations on the astral plane, eventually coming back down to the next experience of life. Are we ready or not? Have we learned enough or is the soul still to learn?"

A seasoned selector in her homebase of Naarm/Melbourne, Jazz (@spaceswithinspace) is a rising presence in the electronic music scene at large. A regular fixture on the radio (as PBS 106.7FM ‘Spaces Within Space’ host and resident on both Skylab and Hope Street) as well as in the booth at countless parties and events, her creative mixing style and quirky, always on-point selections have seen her become a much-loved contributor to the bustling Naarm/Melbourne scene.

Expertly blending bleepy synthesisers, broken percussion and playful psychedelia, Jazz’s Patterns of Perception 84 is a perfect snapshot of her idiosyncratic style and taste. Recorded on a dark and rainy morning during Melbourne’s recent fifth lockdown, this set steers Jazz's musical narrative into a dark, dystopian direction, offering an energetic interpretation of the unpredictable reality that we find ourselves in.

Shaped at the intersection of genres, feelings, spaces and even eras, @spekkiwebu’s distinctive vision is an entrancing and truly innovative presence within the contemporary electronic music landscape. Years in the gabber scene and as a junglist in and around his hometown of Delft have pushed his sound in mind-bending, raw, and infinitely inventive directions, which deftly dances between mesmerising slow motion and breakneck 90s rave velocity.

In recent years, his shamanistic sound has expanded the minds of partygoers across Europe, with appearances at festivals and clubs including Dekmantel, Zeezout, Solstice and Crave to De School, The Pickle Factory, Het Magazijn, Elysia and Corsica Studios. Meanwhile, his own imprint @mirrorzone (founded in 2017) provides a platform for his deep musical introspections and inspirations to come to fruition.

Spekki’s indelible Patterns of Perception 86 is a deep, intricately crafted and truly mental trip, moving organically between textures and emotions both lucid and obscure. Over the course of 100+ minutes, we are taken on an odyssey into another dimension, where introspective, experimental textures unfold, giving way to urgent, yet profoundly psychedelic rhythms. 
Stemming from a period of intense experimentation, collaboration and inspiration in the studio, this mix also strikes a deeply personal note, embodying a spiritual journey of passion and emotion.

Nico grew up in a small coastal town in Galicia in the late 80s. In 2008, he started to involve himself with deeper shades of electronic music and their profound sentimental atmospheres. His interest became an obsession, and within two years he began to play in clubs across the Spanish northwest.

According to the artist, he was influenced by a golden generation of local DJs who helped define and shape his sound in terms of dance music, along with a rounded love of legendary bands and artists from across the musical spectrum. His musical philosophy is that everyone has something to bring, so there is always something to learn.

In 2015, Nico moved to Barcelona, expanding his horizons both artistically and personally. He’s currently one of the residents of the renowned Nitsa Club, and together with the duo Binomi, is responsible for HIRU, a multi-venue party across the city designed as an ode to club culture.

Nico prefers not to pigeonhole himself into any particular style, but his sets are nothing short of hypnotic. When he plays, he looks for that peculiar sensory union with the dance floor that connects them without words, seeking to lead the night in the same direction together.

In 2025, Roger 23 makes his return to Night Defined Recordings. Following his 2022 album “Bounds of a Moral Principle and Established Standard Behavior”, the unmistakable Saarländer revisits his teenage memories of the Saarbrücken-Leicester connection through a collaboration with his UK kindred spirit, Tom Dicicco. In just two months, the duo has created a collection of ten tracks rich in sonic depth, embodying their dedication to and belief in the power of exploration.
