A bond made close to the waterline in Brighton, Brisbane, was soon washed away.

Paradoxically, the titles reference to the permanence of impermanence. Whilst the high and low tides come and go each day, the sand underneath is always changing shape and form.

Recorded as one piece of audio, this was my first time recording using fingerpicking. It was also one of the most difficult tracks to learn how to play and took years to be satisfied with the performance. Whilst most of my recordings have layers and layers of audio, only a hand full, have one layer like this one.

Recorded on my trusty, blue-burst Fender Stratocaster (called Michelle) it’s of the few times (in recording 40 songs) that she makes an appearance. She has a very specific warm tone, I can only achieve with this guitar, which I have had since my 21st birthday.

I think it’s quite meditative and has a trance like vibe.

RFK JR Goes to DC

Brisbane-based Paul J Rogers grew up in the south-eastern suburbs of Sydney in the 1980’s, in a place affectionately known as ‘The Shire’ (post LoTR).    

Paul started playing guitar and writing music at age 14. His sound was influenced by the rock politics of Midnight Oil, the infectious grooves of INXS, and the atmospheric landscapes of U2.    

Paul experienced degrees of success with Real Life Exit (RLX) in the early 1990’s playing prestigious venues such as Lee's Palace (Toronto), as well as Selina’s at Sydney’s Coogee Bay Hotel. In this period RLX were signed with Sony aﬃliate ICM (International Creative Management - now CAA).    

He then withdrew from the lights to start a family in the early 2000’s.  In 2003 his passion for global themes of human rights, justice, power and citizenship saw him begin a degree in Political Science & International Studies.  He graduated in 2009.   

From 1998 to 2012 Paul was  actively engaged as a volunteer in several community and environmental projects and not-for-profit organizations. 

Coming out of musical hibernation in 2014, Paul began producing and releasing music as a solo artist. He has now released 40  songs. 

Paul writes, performs and produces all of his music.    

Outside of music, Paul spends his downtime engaged in all things, Science, Spirit, and Space.
