In 1983, electronic musician Rudolf Langer (Tyndall) and guitarist Peter Preuß teamed up to form a duo by the name of LAPRE (LAnger + PREuß). Aligned with the second generation of the Berlin School, their output is incredibly varied: from repetitive sequencer patterns via playfully cheerful synth pop all the way to atmospheric, hypnotic minor key expanses. It’s all there. By 1984 LAPRE had released two tapes and a 12 inch vinyl. Our compilation presents the most compelling tracks from these releases. All appearing on CD for the very first time. DEEP FOREST & GAUDI   'Epic Circuits'  (Album Teaser)

In 1970, Southern soul music maverick Jerry Williams, Jr. made the most radical move of his career. Frustrated with music business politics Williams reinvented himself as Swamp Dogg, an irreverent anti-hero smashing the conventions of commercial R&B music. Swamp Dogg’s debut release Total Destruction to Your Mind featured a post-apocalyptic take on the Muscle Shoals’ sound, with lyrics inspired by the revolutionary politics and psychedelic drugs of the late ‘60s. The music on Total Destruction to Your Mind stood worlds apart from the formulaic pop tunes Williams started cutting in 1954 under the name Little Jerry, and Swamp Dogg hasn’t looked back since. 

But the music business wasn’t ready for Swamp Dogg, nor was the rest of America. His bizarre album titles and wild cover art turned the average consumer off, while his subversive lyrics earned him a spot on Richard Nixon’s infamous enemies list. Swamp Dogg was not deterred. He seemed to relish operating from the margins of the music business, consequently becoming one of the quintessential outsider figures in American music. 

Now, nearly fifty years after his debut release, Swamp Dogg stands on the precipice of another radical reinvention. His latest creation, Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune, is a nine song collection featuring production by Poliça’s Ryan Olson, and finds Swamp Dogg’s bluesy southern soul colliding head-on with 21st Century electronic music production techniques.

Los Angeles-based composer Brocker Way’s impassioned neo-classical arrangements act as a subtly  emotive force behind the hit Netflix series Wild Wild Country, gently nudging the audience’s perception, and at times brashly stepping out in front of the show’s subject matter. These fifteen pieces taken from the recording sessions of the docuseries’ original score serve to deepen the ecstasies and tragedies recounted in their visual companion, providing delicate color and weight to the story of the Neo-sannyasin cult and the trouble surrounding the commune they constructed in 1980’s Oregon. With its kinetic movement and narrative sense of melody, Way’s score tells its own story when extracted from the series and distilled into LP form.

At an early age Brocker began studying dance.  Taking the lead from his mother, a hip hop dance instructor herself, he began teaching hip hop dance classes at local gyms as a teenager, and continued this line of work through his high school years.  Contemporaneously, through a “fast track” educational program, he was allowed to enroll in college courses where he began obsessively studying composition, music theory, and orchestration, while also engaging in various musical endeavors with his brother Chapman who would go on to be one of Wild Wild Country’s directors.  As his younger sibling’s interests shifted evermore to filmmaking in the years that followed, Brocker found himself applying his hard-won knowledge to writing music for commercials and films. The Way brothers’ symbiotic pursuits would eventually culminate in a family-wide project, 2014’s The Battered Bastards of Baseball, a compelling documentary about the independent baseball team established in 1973 by their grandfather Bing Russell, narrated by their uncle Kurt-- who himself played on the team.

With co-directorial help from their third brother, Maclain, the Ways turned their familial cinematic efforts to the controversial story of Rajneeshpuram, a town established near Antelope, Oregon in 1981 by Indian mystic Baghwan Shree Rajneesh and his devotees. Working closely with his brothers and a skilled technical team including mix engineers Joey Waronker (Atoms for Peace, David Byrne, Beck, R.E.M.) and Tom Biller (Kanye West, Jon Brion, Kate Nash), and percussionist Neal Morgan (Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan), Brocker’s Wild Wild Country vignettes are meant to reflect the outlook of each of the show’s interviewees rather than simply emphasizing their outward idiosyncrasies. Such an approach invites the listener to inhabit the myriad personalities and situations in the show from a virtual first-person perspective, sculpting a deeply empathic auditory experience capable of standing on its own as an album. In Way’s words “This kind of music gives us an idea as to the motives of each talking head, without actually scoring the motives of the character, and hopefully entices us as the audience to take the journey with them. When the Rajneeshees are building their town, you get to feel that and be right there with them. When Dave Fronmeyer is building his case, you get to feel the nobility he saw in his cause, and we hope to put you right in the room with him when he’s doing it. When a city inspector has to go onto the ranch you can feel the fear as you sit in the car with him. That’s the goal anyway.”

Way has an impressive ability to transmute the complex, conflicting sentiments of each of the series’ featured individuals into satisfying musical motifs that skirt folk-rock, ambient, contemporary electronic, and modern classical styles with measured ease. Hand picked from hours of Brocker Way’s most definitive sessions to date, the Wild Wild Country (Original Score) is a perfect companion to 2018’s best documentary series.

On Moon 2 Ava Luna’s de facto band leader Carlos Hernandez steps back, leaving space for the rest of the band members to step up and step into roles they hadn’t occupied on previous albums. Felicia Douglass (now a touring member of Dirty Projectors) worked with percussion and sampler, Julian Fader experimented with synths, nearly every band member ran the computer during recording sessions, and Becca Kauffman (aka performance artist Jennifer Vanilla) composed her first song for the group “On Its Side the Fallen Fire,” a deeply layered orchestral piece of Kate Bush grandeur meets Julia Holter reverie. 
 
Compared with previous Ava Luna albums, Moon 2 has fewer sharp turns into dissonance, fewer celebratory guitar parts, none of Hernandez’s signature screams. Nevertheless, the infectious buoyancy of “Deli Run” and “Walking With an Enemy,” are warm and bright, and songs like “Centerline” and “Set it Off” venture confidently into pop territory. The title track, painting the elation and tumult of a crush, is set against a swaggering reggae bassline and warbling Kraftwerk synths. “Every sci-fi movie has a nightclub. These are the songs in that nightclub," says Kauffman.

Previously only released on cassette in 1985 on Carl Weingarten's own Multiphase Records, ”Living In The Distant Present” is now available on vinyl, CD and digital for the first time on Azure Vista Records. The album is a rare treat for fans of guitar ambient, tape loops and the experimental side of new age music. When listening to this album one can't help but wonder that had it initially received a wider distribution it surely would have been considered an ambient classic.

Carl Weingarten is one of the unsung heroes of American minimalism. Even though he's been active for close to four decades, his work is just now starting to receive the praise it deserves. On ”Living Ín The Distant Present” showly shifting synth patterns is joined with his signature guitar playing – a tranquil, stretched out sound that blur the lines between played and processed, occasionally sonically closer to violins or flutes than guitars. Incredibly sparse and evocative, there's a tasteful zen-quality to these 12 tracks. Weingarten's compositions appear both timeless and tranquil. Azure Vista Records is proud to bring this lost classic back in print and introduce it to a new generation of experimental music listeners!

Records back in February with the percussive anthem Ree's Vibe and the historical track featured on MTV Base Gqom Nation documentary "Gqom 5” - Gqom Oh! is finally ready to release Griffit Vigo’s first solo single ‘DJ’ on a 7" vinyl, with on the b-side another Gqom viral Durban track coming from the numeric series "Gqom 6”. 
Griffit Vigo, a real innovator in the Gqom genre 
who grew up in Clermont and started to produce 
music around 2007, has attained a legendary 
status amongst his peers as he was one of the originators of gqom, inventing sounds as Umshanelo (meaning broom in Zulu) and chopping vocals that everybody then started to sample. 
Many of his beats were appropriated or sampled, so now the time has finally come for him to show his talent and unique style and inspire the listeners in the same way he inspired everyone in Durban. 
This single introduces his forthcoming album on Gqom Oh!, to be released in September/October 2018 entitled ‘Gqom is Alive’. 
As the Gqom sound has massively changed in the past year, taking over South Africa and the world, also by evolving into a more commercial-focused and melodic branch which derives from Sgubhu, Griffit Vigo’s intention is to keep the original Gqom sound as pure and authentic as it was when it was first birthed whilst still pushing the sound forward in the future.
