Hailing from San Francisco, Mark Slee is known to wear many creative hats. But two of his all-time favorite fashions are that of DJ and producer. Since co-founding House-Heads in 2008, a collective combining forward-thinking music with a quirky underground vibe, he has gone on to join the Listed Bookings roster and host the monthly mix show Heron Sound on Proton Radio. He is also one half of Manju Masi, a collaboration with long-time partner in crime Atish.

Over the course of an obsession with dance music now more than 15 years strong, Slee has evolved a style of deep house that reflects a unique personality, balancing intricate grooves, dreamy textures, and playful whimsical bounce. Blending his technical side with intuition and introspection, he takes an approach that tickles both mind and soul.

Slee's sets have taken him far and wide, playing for audiences from Cape Town to Playa del Carmen, from Robot Heart to the Cityfox series in NYC. On the home front, his penchant for diverse and well-crafted warmup sets sees him regularly playing SF's top clubs, opening for DJs like Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells, Lee Burridge, Guy Gerber, Mathew Dekay, Vincenzo, Andre Lodemann, and Hector.

Rounding things out are his original productions and remixes, released on Cityfox, Tenampa, 5 and Dime, and Looq.

Eclipse is a journey that begins on the streets of Berlin with a track called Poison from the Katermukke label, then soars down to South America with a series of latin inspired tracks that we can't stop dancing to. We travel to the playa and then deep into the clubs of Istanbul before landing back in the US, inspired by an iconic Swedish pop star we all love.

3 QUESTIONS TO OST & KJEX:

Q: Nice having you on the series. How did you guys meet once?

A: We met through skateboarding in high school and eventually started a band. We played death metal for many years.

Q: Talking about your mix - how did these tracks have an impact on your common doings?

A: Many of them have made a huge impact, I would say. The mix comes in three parts. First there is a section of tunes we grew up with in the 1980’s. In the 1980’s we got cable-TV in our area and with it Sky Channel, Sky Trax and the whole of the British electronic Pop explosion into our living rooms. A common thing to do after school would be to hang around at some friends house, looking for candy and looking at music videos. I think this period explains why we came to be so attracted to Electronic Music later in our lives. The second part is from 1995-1998, when we fell in love with the Electronic Music of that time. Some wonderful tunes in there by Scorn, The Black Dog, LFO etc. It made a huge impact. Finishing off is a house mix, with some of the tunes and artists that really got us hooked on House Music. Some of these playful tunes by Motorbass, Herbert, Nôze, Markus Nikolai etc, inspired us a lot.

Q: Which future projects are on the way?

A: Indeed. This autumn / winter we will release a compilation featuring our friends in the Oslo scene. Coming out on our own Snick Snack Music. Really looking forward to that one as there is a lot of talent and creativity here. We hope the compilation will help shed some light on the whole situation. Also we are going to start recording a new album, within the year. Thanks for having us.

Their DJ dynamic is totally unique. Kenny is a powerful sorcerer whose musical spells infuse a slice of soul into good times party music in a way that begs you to feel. Dersu, a designer by trade, possesses the uncanny ability to convert visual design elements into conscientiously composed sonic spaces that you can all-but see. Peace in Noise sets celebrate Kenny and Dersu as individuals. However, the way they work as a combined unit merges their unique personalities and tastes into a unified audio aesthetic that no one else can replicate. There is a palpable, intimate brotherhood present in the music they mix together and it is such a pleasure to experience. Watching Kenny and Dersu, it’s obvious how much fun they have when they’re playing together, even when that fun manifests itself as tight calculated set. Fluent in the universal language of music, their rich flow always takes you on a journey, inviting full participation, whether you’re experiencing them on the dance floor or streaming a Peace in Noise set wherever you may be.


For the past five years, Peace in Noise have been bringing quality parties to the West Side of LA. They are the resident DJs of NightCause, a monthly party hosted at Townhouse in Venice. All the proceeds of NightCause are donated to a charity selected by the headlining DJ of the month. If you’re in town during the first Thursday of the month, NightCause is the dance party you won’t want to miss.
