Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is back with another star-packed release &ndash; this time from discObeta, who has teamed up with some heavy hitters on the remix front for a funky slice of hip-hop breaks.discObeta has served up 2 epic funk fused originals and call on Fort Knox Five, Ross Go, Mined &amp; Forrest, BadboE &amp; Pecoe to get busy on some remixes.
Starting off with the title tune Down The Block which showcases discObeta&rsquo;s low-slung funky sounds with some well picked classic vocal hooks and smooth electro basslines. Fort Knox Five is coming in hot on the remix of Down The Block with an upbeat dancefloor twist to the original. They get the absolute best out of the vocal hooks while making it their own on by infusing their classic funky Fort Knox Five vibes that they are known and loved for. Ross Go is getting busy while diving into the classic goldmine of samples and serves up a fun and upbeat alternative to the original.
On the flip side we dive into some serious street vibes and big flows on the Yoobie Doo joint. Original cut gives more of the low-slung goodness from discObeta while Mined &amp; Forrest adds some well picked glitch and atmosphere to the equation. Label head honcho and funky breaks veteran BadboE gives Yoobie Doo a glitchy boom bap twist before Pecoe ending things off on a funky breaks tip with his uptempo funky remix.

INXS - What You Need (Pecoe Remix)

Jamaican saxophonist & arranger Cedric Im Brooks is one of my most cherished reggae artist. Actually, confining him to the reggae scene would be a massive understatement. 
A brilliant musician, he kept on blurring the lines between spiritual Free-jazz (think Sun Ra), Afro grooves (think Fela), Latin rhythms and, of course, Reggae. 
A cornerstone of legendary label Studio One, his musical legacy is impressive and if you're not familiar with him, I urge you to dig into his most famous albums, mostly recorded in the 70's with his band The Light Of Saba ("United Africa", "Im Flash Forward" or "The Magical Light Of Saba") & get ready for some colourful funky journey.

"Africa" is one of my favorite track by him, an afro-funk jam whose joyful & infectious horns chorus is hard to resist. With a clear hint at the "back to Motherland" Rasta myth, "Africa" is also a great example of Cedric's spiritual Rastafari faith, often present in his songs lyrics.
Here is my DJ-friendly nudisco-flavored edit of it.

Casbah 73 is back with this wicked eccentric house 12”. "I'm Feeling Lucky" is a deep and intense Detroit-influenced vocal house jam. A take on the classic Muzic Box spirit, this one's got that anthemic feel about it and has classic written all over it.

Over on the flip side "I Am The Main Bitch" keeps the party going. It's a polyrhythmic groovy house number that hits all the right keys to move the dancefloor. Also included is a remix of this track, aptly named "In The Middle East", which adds an erm...Middle Eastern flavour to the whole thing: A bit psychedelic, yet effective.

All that, on a very limited 12” with screen-printed artwork and download coupon. With amazing artwork by graphic genius Pepe Medina.
