Hi Ross, I listened to this in the morning before the kids got up (the length was perfect at 15 mins), the title was warming to read and got me hooked in  and I was glad I listened, the bit you shared about not being able to get someone to interview for this episode was brave and I respect that,  you demonstrated that by sticking to one of your values in your personal life meant that you felt as though you fell short on your podcast which is one of your other values, I loved that you shared that and also the thought processes that went with all of that.  Made me feel morw like we're all in the same boat when struggling to do all the things we want to do but we're humans and not machines and can only do what's humanly possible . ‘Static’ is the debut EP from Safetalk, aka Berlin based British singer David Harks and Parisian producers Hugues Tonnet & Thomas Desnoyers. Featuring the brand new single, ‘Static’, previous releases ‘Universal’, ‘Gold of the Highest’ and ‘Mimic’ plus a new remix by Parisian producer Royer, the EP sees the band continue to explore the point in space where hypnagogic soul collides with psychedelic electronic music and interstellar RnB-inspired rhythms.

Where the band’s previous releases have offered some respite from the maelstrom of sound and fury that’s engulfed us the past few years, ‘Static’ sees the band confront the injustices of the 21st Century, and the refugee crisis that has swept over Europe, head-on.

In an age when our worst instincts are constantly fed back to ourselves with a passionate intensity, when our societies continue to atomise and fragment Safetalk offer us an alternative, a protest song that demands inclusion, that wants to lift up the nameless and unknown.

Alongside ‘Static’ the EP features the band’s previous singles that saw them tipped by the likes of Clash, Vice’s Creators Platform and the Ransom Note. From the uplifting, transcendental ‘Universal’ through to the mechanical hymn of ‘Mimic’ and ‘G.O.T.H’s ode to human potential, Safetalks fusion of pulsating electronic rhythms, radiant synths and tender vocals combine to create machine music made with heart and soul.

Finally acting as a coda to the EP the band asked their friend, Parisian producer Royer to remix ‘Gold of the Highest’. The result is a stunning ambient reworking that distils the track to a lambent wash of serene synths and provides a perfect meditative ending to the band’s debut EP.
