The Dillyboys are an energetic folk band, bringing to life original and traditional songs and tunes, using banjo, accordion, violin, guitar and carefully constructed harmonies.

 

Their debut EP is a fine example of a sound they have coined ‘Shanty Chic’, drawing on the traditions of folk music from around the globe. They have cultivated a  reputation for lively, rambunctious concerts that have a strong focus on audience participation.

Hi I'm Mark. I've been a drummer and musician for about 15 years, and have a diverse mix of live, recording and teaching experience. I'm originally from Worcestershire where I studied music tech and played extensively around the Midlands before moving to Bristol in 2008 to undertake a BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship. Here I gained valuable industry experience and worked with many songwriters and musicians - developing my instrumental, studio and performance skills, as well as studying music theory, history, culture and business. During my degree and in the following years I've played in many bands and gigged across most of the major venues in Bristol until about 2016 when I moved to Devon. 

To me music is about self-expression and creativity. Playing with feel, great tone and a range of dynamics, from doing simple things well and playing for the song, to being more experimental.

The recordings included here are a selection of tracks from the bands I've been a part of. Some recordings are better than others (some as a youngster), but I'm still immensely proud of the music I've created and am happy to share it! Thanks for listening.

I am 72 been singing for 6 years . I had very little confidence when I started. I was asked by a guitarist if I was interested in going as a singer with him, he gave me lots of confidence when we went out . Sadly Ken lost his battle with cancer 2 years ago very big loss of a good friend and guitarist.we did lots of charity shows very rewarding we never asked for any payment. I love all kinds of music. I will try all kind of different music, I have some tracks on (sound cloud )hope you may drop on to them see what you think. I compose chiptune music first and foremost, and I try to give my pieces a rich atmosphere with emotional depth. I want to apply this style originating from retro video games to telling stories that are personal to me. It's not what most people think of when they hear words like "8-bit" or "Video Game Music" but I know tons of games with extremely emotive soundtracks, and I suppose I'm trying to distil those influences here. Maybe my work will resonate with you, and hopefully it'll get you dancing as well! I am available for game soundtrack composition in addition to my more personal releases.

One project I have on the backburner right now is the soundtrack to Deralight, an indie game which I conceptualised but which is not currently being worked on. I've linked the discord below anyway, as I post regular updates on my other projects there too!
