Pepper Jane and her guitar, Maureen, present a cross-genre repertoire of favourites, surprises and originals that swing from lofty croonings to belted lashings of aural delights.

Growing up on a mixed enterprise farm on the Darling Downs, Pepper was singing from a young age, in churches, choirs, musicals, showers, on pushbikes and a tree stump at the bus stop.

Around age 14, the sporadic Miss Jane began a new woody, wiry misdemeanour, learning some guitar chords and penning a few tales of woe and misdirection. Some (undisclosed) years later she picked up a guitar, this time loitering with actual intent, to begin cultivating the charismatic performer that is Pepper Jane.

Finally, after 2.5 minutes onstage in an outlying tent at Woodford Folk Festival on January 1, 2014 and an unfortunately dry summer, the time had arrived to leave agronomy, pizza delivery, pouring beers and workaholism behind. To chase the dream. To live it.

Darren Heinrich is a versatile Sydney-based organist, pianist and educator who holds a 1st class Honours degree in Jazz from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He has recently completed his PhD research in Jazz Organ Improvisation. His influences incorporate the entire spectrum of the Jazz idiom, from its earliest ragtime roots to modern jazz. He regularly gigs with his own trio and freelances with a wide variety of acts both locally and abroad.

Born and raised in Barbados and now living in Australia, Alexander Mills has been entertaining international audiences with his unique blend of acoustic folk and pop infused with a little bit of rock.  During his career, Alex has opened for Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds at the Barbados Jazz Festival, has toured Ontario, and performed in cities like New York, Nashville, and London.  He has also graced the stage at the Virgin Holidays Music Festival in Barbados.

Over the years, Alex has surrounded himself with the music industries brightest minds.  He has recorded with multi-Grammy winning producer and engineer Neal Cappellino, who was worked with stars such as Vince Gill, Darius Rucker, Dolly Parton, and Brad Paisley.  Alex has also collaborated with Grammy nominated songwriter Amanda Williams (written songs for Garth Brooks and George Jones). Alex’s focus on live performance skills has led to him learning from one of the world’s top live music producers, Tom Jackson (Taylor Swift, Band Perry).  He has also collaborated with well-known Caribbean talents such as DJ Bubbles (producer for Rupee) and producer Chris Allman.

When he isn’t writing songs or playing guitar, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife and son.  He loves skateboarding and watching television shows like Game of Thrones, Ghost Adventures, and Narcos.  Alex is also an avid reader citing Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferris and Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk as two of his personal favorites.

The band lives in the real world. They tell things how they really are with a direct, no bullshit approach.

“Most of these songs have come from a very private place” says LeighA. “We live in a society where people hide behind various masks. They have a hard time saying that they're actually not ok. On the contrary people are unable to express deep emotions openly like being in love or being excited. Western society frowns upon any form of over expression - be it negative or positive. Emotions are felt behind closed doors.  I too deal with my emotions privately, however I am lucky as I have an outlet which is my songwriting. Without that I think I would be spiritually constipated. I like to be as honest as I can because in sharing my own experiences and emotions I hope that people can see that they are not alone. My goal is to inspire people speak out and if they cannot for whatever reason... I hope that they too find an outlet to express their emotions in a seemingly very politically correct world”
LeighA met guitarist, Ayden and Bassist, Joey at university and the trio formed what is the foundations for the band's sound.  Drawing on their love for music and their new found friendship the band formed in 2016 and each musician began writing parts and collecting ideas for their first  album which is due to be released as early as December 2020.
