For nearly a decade, Tycho has been known as the musical alias of Scott Hansen, but with the release of Awake – his second LP for Ghostly International – the solo project has evolved into a three-piece band. Relating closer to post-rock than ambient soundscapes, the record is situated in the present, sounding more like Hansen than drawing from his influences. “This is, in many ways, the first true Tycho record.”

Following 2011’s Dive LP, the San Francisco-based designer toured extensively, and with a full band on stage, his sound coalesced into a percussive, organic whole. Zac Brown (guitars, bass) rejoined Scott on the road for this tour, but it was the particular addition of Rory O’Connor’s live drumming that ultimately sent Hansen back to the studio with a more precise vision. “After the tour, I decided that I wanted to capture the more energetic, driven sound of the live show on the next album,” Hansen recalls. Bringing musicians into Tycho’s creative process was a step towards expanding his own songwriting and advancing the project beyond its current sound.

In a cabin near Tahoe last winter, Zac and Scott began fleshing out the structure of the new record, but it wasn’t until they set up shop in the hills of Santa Cruz with Rory that it all fell into place. “It crystallized the vision of how the drums would come to the forefront on this record,” says Hansen. The sound was much more stripped-down and concise with more organic instruments in the fold. Songs like “Montana” and “Awake” are a departure from Tycho’s previous material – unique to the group effort poured into the songs on the new record – while “See” and “Dye” echo ideas from previous works, bridging a middle ground between the old and new. Working with Count Eldridge, who also engineered Dive, the team could fixate on the pulses that Tycho might previously layer under synthesizers and exhume them with distinct bass and guitar patterns.

Also known for his design work as ISO50, Hansen’s visual and sonic efforts have dovetailed throughout the course of his career. “This is the first time in my life I've dropped everything to focus on one artistic pursuit,” notes Hansen. Previous Tycho releases came to fruition when an amalgam of songs were nearing completion, but Awake is where music becomes the focus and true expression becomes the result.

Here at Perplexity Music, we our extremely proud to introduce our first release on the label after months of waiting. As our aim is to become the pinnacle of melodic progressive house music, what better way than to start it of with a tremendous 4 track EP from the sensational Alex H. The Perth based producer has been climbing up the progressive ladder since 2012 & his remarkable talent can be heard instantly so take a moment to revel in the delight that is music for the soul. 

The first release of the EP, "No Turning Back" is a delectable vocal masterpiece that locks into the core of our emotions & expands in our minds. Comprised  up of tantalizing chords that emit solid & crisp sounds, steady kicks & brilliant melodies, the overall atmosphere is one that is vibrant & striking. The soothing warm vocals provided by Mona Moua blend perfectly with the flow of the production & the deliverance of the thought provoking lyrics are conveyed so beautifully.

Next up in this quality package is another out of this world collaboration & again, with another master of melodies that is Netherland sensation Roald Velden. Also having worked together previously, more prominently on Roald's album, the blend of these talents has earned a great following due to the pure emotion & the top notch effort & time they put into their productions. Prepare to delve into a journey of warm, blissful & magical textures that swoop right in the moment you press play. That's right, it really is that astounding.  With the colorful combination of the melodic elements, the superb heart felt sounds flow freely in a mix up relaxed percussion work & sweet piano lines once again. 

Last but not least is a huge collaboration with the gifted French talent James Woods so you know you’re in for a dynamic experience with "Atitlan". Having worked on the smashing release "Guadalupe" earlier this year, the outcome of what these two producers create is an explosion of luscious sound & this time is no different. Keeping with the gorgeous melody arrangements, the signature sounds of both can be heard so remarkably such as the luring piano lines pressed side by side powerful chord progressions. Add in the subtle female harmonized vocals that tie the production together & you have this easy on the ears, laid back production. 

As well as the 3 magnificent productions,  "No Turning Back" also has a dub version which is the last release on the EP & this is for those that want to create their own moving story in the minds & with the melodic elements like more evident, that'll be easy to get lost into. 
This is just an small insight as to what to expect from us so we hope you'll stick around and support us through the exciting times ahead. Taking a spin in the other direction from "Congo", this beauty resonates the subtle elements that we all have as people, the need for being needed, and to be someone that another soul needs. The stunning rich textures of the release is reflected by the use of the stimulating yet powerful chords. gritty percussion use and an energetic atmospheric vibe making it club friendly as well as for individual serenity time.  The breakdown comprised of the heart wrenchingly beautiful piano lines captivates us for the immense energy that follows. He has reached into the depths of a magical journey and has collected all the right sounds, elements & feelings to create this wonderfully constructed piece.

Through encyclopaedic knowledge of the 800+ strong Proton roster of labels Tripp Baronner has envisioned a new concept of the principle of seemingly polar opposites, coming together as interconnected and independent universal forces - life and death, the dark and the light: one complete entity.

From a passion for underground progressive house at opposite ends of the audio spectrum - the deep, shadowy atmospheres to the blissful, shimmering melodies, "Yin" and "Yang" were born in an effort to represent this phenomenon in musical form. Each release will provide a single remix of an existing Proton roster track for two inextricably linked labels in the form of a light (Yang) and dark (Yin) edition. Released on the same day, a strong contrast in styles will thus serve to complement each other and nourish the whole.

It was during a Soulection music session on a vibrant evening that one of our A&R's played us some unreleased music from J-Louis. The vibe and timing was just right. In fact, the first listening experience was some of the most refreshing and smoothest soulful-bass infused sounds that we heard in years. It was right then and there that we realized that the 19 year old J-Louis needed to join the Soulection team.

J. Louis, ready to release his Soulection EP “Balanced”, definitely gives off future and forward-thinking vibes through out the entire beat journey. The vibe starts off with a dream like quality; something you’d definitely listen to on those after-hour late night drives with the windows down. All tracks are infused with soft female vocal samples ranging from Nikko Gray, Alicia Keys, Mara Hruby, Ruby Wood (Submotion Orchestra), and R&B queen, Aaliyah. J-Louis throws in a Spanish gem by giving us his twist on Elvis Crespo's “Suavemente”. J. Louis is definitely not a stranger to intricate drum usage and this is very prominent in Balanced.

"I wanted to capture the listener's emotions and get others inspired by the sounds & samples I chose. I love creating that feel good music. Most of the tracks have female voices because I feel that only a woman can inspire a true work of art.. Thanks to Soulection I'm able to do what I love and will continue to do so in the future."
