I'm stoked to present yet another collaborative piece! 

This time I teamed up with the evocative Oberlin. "Takaraivon takana" translates as "Behind The Back Of Your Head". Once again I had the chance to incorporate my main instrument, drums, into the track. Otherwise this one goes deep into sound design territory with a lot of dynamics and intricate elements. Enjoy the brew! Headphones are strongly recommended.

Icelandic contemporary composer Ólafur Arnalds created and released a new song, one per day for one for one whole week during the month of October 2011. The songs were recorded and filmed live in the living room of his Reykjavik apartment and released instantly for free as streamed videos and mp3 downloads.

Following in the spirit of Ólafur Arnalds’ critically acclaimed Found Songs (2009) now comes Living Room Songs. This time Ólafur takes the idea further and invites the audience into the comfort of his living room, where the songs were recorded live and the whole process filmed. The songs were instantly released in form of a free mp3 download and video stream- straight from Ólafur's Reykjavik apartment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: ‘One night I was just playing my piano here in this apartment and I was writing a new song and I didn't have my phone on me which I usually use to record ideas. So I actually took out my MacBook and I didn't want to open like a proper recording program, so I just opened Photo Booth and recorded a video of myself playing the song so that I would remember the song. And I really liked the atmosphere of that video and that's when I thought I should do a series of songs in my living room...’             – Ólafur Arnalds

Girl Walking On The Beach Wearing A Skirt  is taken from Kit's debut album titled, Trẻ em, the first release from the ASIP Places Series. Personally recorded sounds from Vietnam have been blended with a wide range of electronic music to create a journey through Kit's experience of the country. Trẻ em will be available from 13/04 and will be accompanied by some amazing track-by-track artwork. 

"This is the only track on the album that was written and produced entirely before I went on the trip. I didn’t plan on using it until I ventured to the tropical island of Phu Quoc. This place had beautiful white sands, fresh fruit being sold on the beaches and full body massages next to the sea for just £1. It was here after watching my girlfriend walk away down the beach that I thought about using the song. I added beach sounds from Phu Quoc that I had sampled. To finish the track off, after some remixing, I added a lovely sample of the Vietnamese people during their Independence Day laughing and screaming in joy over fireworks. I had never seen or heard so much excitement over fireworks before. This song eventually became my own little place of peace, I would listen to it during my time on Phu Quoc as it fitted the environment so well."

As part of the upcoming "chocolate box" series, we are very pleased to welcome back one of the earlier artists that Time Released Sound released, Bernard Zwijzen, aka Sonmi451. Where previously he took us via the deluxe Star Atlas release into the far reaches of the solar system, he directs us this time us towards heights more earthbound,  the mountain peaks of the Alps and Dolemites, which closer to home as they may well be, are still unreachable in reality for most of us devoted listeners. With his patented and delicate crystalline electronics, Sonmi451 again delivers the celestial goods we know so well, love so much and have come to expect!

Ashlar is the collaborative project of Wil Bolton (Hibernate, Rural Colours, Time Released Sound) and Phil Edwards/PJE (Twisted Treeline, U-Cover, Crazy Language). Both based in Merseyside, UK (Wil in Liverpool's Chinatown, Phil in the Wirral), these two artists and friends began working together at the beginning of 2011.  Lazy Saturday afternoons spent in various public houses in Liverpool's Georgian Quarter were followed by evenings jamming in Wil's studio, culminating in the collection of textural ambient tracks 'Saturday Drones'.

Finding a sense of serenity is a challenge most of us chase, every day. Whether it’s the coffee-breath grind of the underground, the grid-lock of the daily commute or the drudgery of the 9-5, looking beyond the concrete and grey monotony, to nature, is often the transcendent salvation we seek.

Dart is one such redemption. Inspired by the river from which this collection takes its name, these five continuous movements pay personal homage to the stretch of water that Jethro Cooke considers to be the connection between the sacred places of his youth and the present-day comfort of a retreat.

“I hope that listeners will find Dart peaceful but not without vitality and dynamism,” Jethro explains. “I set out to create a gentle, intimate piece of environmental music, essentially textural composition with an organic aesthetic. I worked with field recordings affected to a varying degree; the familiar sounds of running water and birdsong accompany melodic drones and gentle rhythmic lines crafted from riverside samples. There is no synthesis in Dart.”

A gentle, morphing soundtrack, Dart’s dream-like drones weave and swathe to an ecological beat. Tracked by environmental field recordings, it’s easy to imagine the lush canopies of grass, dragonflies languidly patrolling their territory and wildlife instinctively running their biological routine.

“From the moorland at the heart of Devon to the South coast, the Dart carves a valley of abundant natural beauty where I have spent a great deal of my time over the last ten years,” Jethro reminisces. “These days the river is above all a comfort. I visit it to rest, to calm myself and clear my head. It has the almost unique effect of calming through movement rather than stillness – the constant rolling of water is like a mantra.”

It’s what helps underpin the subtle beauty of this set and Dart paints a vivid picture of the velvet green idylls we can all dream about; both the movement and the melody.

We are Bi-products of each other our Nature and our Habitat, in this life of constant change we try to find the best way to deal with the consecvenses of not always knowing what is the right path, so we creates, experiments, acts and lives as contemporary symptoms,  sending out signs and signals to our surroundings in our culture for it to recognize and use it as a navigator to understand ourself, people, animals, nature, life in general the now and the codex of the times we live in.
It is in this open window, where we are mirroring  living and observing contemporary symptoms of times, we can create, interpret, communicate, our unique set of experiences, visualize our thoughts and doubts & use it as a frame for confirmation of your own state of mind, a recognizing tool for mental health as a grounding - a start, the moment, yours own perfect Now - Whatever you find useful on your path in life to wisdom, freedom and trust, you will find your own tools on your way or you will make them yourself, it will and cannot be given to you, it's for you to discover, you can and will not learn it from someone, the source is for you to find, cause nobody can not teach or learn away we can only inspire, be the creative, communicators, toolmakers, reflectors, living mirrors, the artist.  MUSIC -  gives us the possibility to experience how music, sound-storys, organic field recordings, atmospherics, noise aso. is reflecting and expressing the state of mind of the people and culture of the habitat in our own time. Every region of the earth has it's own musical expression, identity and language, (ever changing of course), some are very active, upfront and visual, others grounded in old ritual tradition, others purely celebrating mother nature and life. The nordic AMBIENT music expression today is up front, modern, active, well known and appreciated widely around the world, for it's emotional seriousity, elemental character and fascinating, recognizable almost visual atmosphere of the natures direct impact on the soundscape, atmosphere and story told or translated.

 NATURE -  has no borders, nor has the music, neither do we. As we get into the ambient, sound-scaping, storytelling, exploring spirit and ancient ground, we get wise on our own habitat, nature, our people and ourself, trough the fine tools of art, sound & music. Sharing these reflections in musical works, experience & wisdom with our brothers & sisters, is what art is all about. The artist will always seek and explore all sides of life & nature, then translate and express it trough the tools of art, so that others who don't have the time, means or the gift to explore it, is given access to this source of knowledge, trough the artists work with the umbrella of all arts, the music. The only, yet, universal language humans have.

 INSIDE you in your home on this earth, in our world of solar systems and galaxys, lives the universe to be, your guide, partner and chi in your effort to see and to be a part of something bigger than yourself.
