A collection of 12 feel good instrumental hip-hop beats to make you shake this Summer. 

'The SunShakers Tape' sees Fosterbeats dive back into the soul, jazz and funk crates, re-emerging with a burnt nose and a handful of recordings featuring his typical bass heavy, drum slapped loops.

He knocks about with a new toy (Roland SP404SX) on this recording and laces everything with a layer of gentle grit courtesy of a 30 year old Akai 4000ds reel to reel tape recorder and some BASF DP26 7" tape he found boxed up in his parents attic.

Intrigued by the impact this 1970s tape machine had on the sound (and partly just to celebrate the resurrection of the old family reel to reel), Fosterbeats decided to produce a limited run of 30 cassettes. A recent trip to Brighton saw him bump brains and pints with vibrant illustrator Lucy Irving (www.LucyIrving.com) who he held to a drunken promise of offering to take on art duties.

Since making his bow on Street Edits six years ago, Javi Frias has delivered a string of fine rework EPs for the likes of Midnight Riot, Tropical Disco and, most frequently, his own Night Shift imprint. Here he returns with his first EP of 2021, a typically club-ready selection of re-edits. The fast-rising Spanish producer hits the ground running with a sweaty, subtly beefed-up take on an old Controllers classic (the house-style revision that is 'Universal Sound'), before delivering a more reverential - but no less rolling - revision of a lesser-known disco-funk cut 'On Fire'. 'Guitar Jam' lives up to its' name - think loose-limbed disco-funk featuring effects-laden guitars -while 'Really Need To Talk', a sublime rearrangement of a 1970s modern soul gem, is our pick of a very strong bunch.

If there’s anyone who prompts the question “When does he find time to make that?” it’s serial editor and remixer Pete Le Freq. For more than 20 years he’s been reworking disco and funk classics as label boss of Alpaca Edits and Llama Farm Recordings, updating originals with a distinctive dance‑floor edge. His prolific remixes have been played by DJs worldwide — he’s a regular at Beatherder, made his Ring stage debut this summer alongside Utah Saints and Jaegerossa, and is a Mastermix remixer alongside Ben Liebrand, Sgt Slick and DJ S. He’s shared decks with Young Pulse, Michael Gray, Craig Charles, Dr Packer and Jo Whiley, and already has dates booked for 2026. 

Simply put:  he makes what he loves in the headphones come out the big speakers.
