Following up on the runaway success of his Dream The Dream compilation, Richard Sen returns with three dance floor focussed interpretations of tracks from the record. 

In his own words: “With the remixes, I took 3 quite different styled tracks, UVX (trance), Bandulu (percussive ambient) and Mind Over Rhythm (progressive breakbeat) and tried to keep the original 90s vibe to them but add my own personality. 

Because there were no separate parts available to use, I had to take samples of audio from the finished originals. I added my own synth sounds and drums where necessary so they became remixes, rather than just edits.”

Dropping just in time for festival season, these variations are undoubtedly going too sound track the summer!

The original track, "Mid Life Crisis" by an Icelandic, Copenhagen based artist Sexy Lazer emerged from the depths of a personal spiritual journey – a turbulent yet transformative experience. The confusion, the waves of emotions, the melancholy – all channeled into a hurricane of energy that birthed not just a song, but an entire concept. Sexy Lazer turned pain into power, humorously embracing the tumultuous journey while sipping on "Mid Life Cider."

We invite you to rediscover "Mid Life Crisis" through the lenses of three distinguished artists, each infusing their musical identity into the mix. The first remix takes flight under the skilled hands of Panthera Krause, who is based in Leipzig and co-label owner of fulfilment. His interoperation of the original features arpeggiated synths, detuned elements, and distorted percussion, creating an edgy, unpredictable atmosphere. Elevated bass guitar notes ground the track, while Krause injects a distinctive rawness, channeling the unapologetic spirit of punk rock. 

Colossio and Theus Mago join forces in the crafting of the second remix, both hailing from the vibrant music scene in Mexico. They embody the spirit of "Blade" in their remix for Sexy Lazer's "Midlife Crisis" infusing the track with the legendary 303 blending nostalgia with futuristic energy. A robust baseline propels listeners onward, supported by percussive elements that add depth and texture to the musical experience.

Niv Ast is an artist who very much operates 'out of the box'. His work on Correspondant, Optimo, Disco Halal, Watergate Records and Get Physical - as well as his work via his own label Band Apart - is bold, line-blurring club gear making him a perfect candidate for an Exploited Club release.

Niv Ast is inspired by the psychedelic waves of acid, the attitude of the punk-rock and the light headed groove of disco. His music is regularly played by DJ Tennis, Jennifer Cardini, Polo & Pan among others. He has performed alongside Tale Of Us, Seth Troxler, Amelie Lens, Blond:ish and many more.

'Tainted In The Sun' kicks things off with a Manchester chorus beaming out over stroppy power chords and a throbbing kick. Progress marches on, gathering colour as it blooms into a synth-driven haze adorned with brass flashes, spiralling sequences and a straight-talking snare. The vibe is heady, infectious and a touch subversive - a slice of euphoric recall for anyone who barely remembers the 90s.

'Don’t Belong' follows up with an Indie-Italo hybrid. Tough, muscular drums anchor the groove while a flexible synth line gently pulls things astray. Clever sequencing has the track swelling in layers as a brooding intensity builds up towards a bridge of darting strobes. The refrain drives back in, hooking the listener back in and capping off a boisterous pastiche; one that strums a certain nostalgic chord whilst also presenting something fresh and novel.'

"Sensory Spaces" EP by Kadiristy kicks off a series of EPs to be presented this summer via Regulardisco. It's a soft "spring" release that balances between eclectic dance melodies and abstractly tropical sounds.

The EP is four original tracks written between February and April 2024 (except "Vortex" previously, which was available on the compilation by the label System - the version on this release is slightly rebuilt and got a fresh remaster). Additionally, there's a spacy “emotional support” remix for the title track by Lauer and a harder club adaptation of “Apex” by Bawrut.

"Suddenly, I stop..."  

The song title gives you a few clues as to where the inspiration for this latest Interbay track has come from, though, as ever, the end result ends up sounding a lot like...interbay.  

My first thought was that I wanted a high up on the neck bassline like Hooky dropped onto New Order's ceremony--and the bassline I came up with here is an homage to that...  

Then, I wanted to include some of club/dance electronics that New Order put on "Blue Monday" (or the b-side to that single, "The Beach").  You can definitely hear the influence of that on the beat, and especially the claps.  

Then I wanted to blend those two very-specific-to-their-era New Order sounds with the more modern rave house sounds found on their "Technique" album.  For example, you'll hear a growl that reminds me of "Fine Time."    

You'll even hear a cowbell--perhaps a tip of the cap to "The Perfect Kiss"?

...but, I didn't want to make a pastiche various eras of New Order.  So, remembering "The Walk" by The Cure, I threw another grittier sounding bassline behind the Hooky-style melodic bass.  

Somehow, a bass one-shot (which is definitely NOT a sample) that sounds like it was yoinked from Wings' "Goodnight Tonight" (but it wasn't) snuck into the mix in a couple of places.  

And because one of the rules that I play by here on SoundCloud is that every track posted here needs to have some sort of vocal element, I slipped in a couple of processed and echo-drenched vocal samples from a fairly obvious (to people my age or those into what I'm into) source.  (In fact, this is the second Interbay track to sample vocals from this same artist--bonus Interbay points if you can figure out which other track does too!)  

And there are some nods to a synth funk influence in some of the synths and melody lines, and a laugh near the end of the track which reminds me of Gorillaz--which doesn't feel appropriate to any of the chosen influences of thiis song--but, I think it helps the track be as danceable as it is...and it also helps it sound like Interbay.    

I'm a particular fan of this track--I know I would have spun it when I was a nightclub dj and I know I would have included it on mixtapes I'd give to friends and unrequited crushes (which is what we did in those days.)
