First of all, thanks to my friend Wells Thiede (who was active in the same Eau Claire indie music scene in the mid-80s to early 90s that I was part of.  Wells was in Social Sanctuary and, later, Capsize the Stars...and I'm sure a bunch of others.)  Wells is an excellent photographer and I've told him many times that his images would make great album covers.  As I was thinking of what image I'd want to use as a thumbnail image for this track, I snagged one of Wells' images..cropped it, flipped it around, tinted it, and processed the hell out of it...and Wells gave me permission to use it.  It is appreciated.  Now, I'm not sure if Wells will like this Interbay track, specifically...but that's on me, not Wells.  ;) )  

This may be the best structured and most straight ahead rock song in the Interbay catalog so far.  It almost feels polished enough to be radio ready.  I pieced the vocals together from a few royalty-free samples, that were mostly unrelated, though sung by the same voice.  Those were placed on an extremely simple arrangement.  There are two guitar parts, two drum parts (one of the drum parts is played at normal speed and, later, at double speed...creating the illusion that there are three drum parts), and there are two synthesizers.  And that's it.  (Some creative editing, like the drum part that is played at different speeds at different times, keeps it from ever being boring.  Though, the short length means that, even though this is simple, it doesn't overstay its welcome.)

Now, I called this a straight ahead rock song--but the synthesizers come in really strong, with a killer beat switch drop...I feel comfortable including more electronic-centric tags on it.

UPDATE:  I've heard from Wells...and they actually DO like "In the Shadows I Shine"--saying they hear some late 80s post-punk in this (which, is really my wheelhouse, so that's high praise.)  And yes, I've now added "post punk" to the tags on this song.  :)
