(If it seems like Interbay has dropped TWO tunes today...not true.  Yesterday, the system that promotes new music made by SoundCloud NextPro users was down...but I didn't know that when I posted yesterday's track ("Embrace The Night"--yesterday's track--it's good, you should check that one out too!) and it wasn't fixed until this morning.  Some of you may be getting recommended to either "Embrace The Night" or "Traumatic" or both today, but the streak of posting a new song every day--so far!--is still intact.)  

When all I had was a tom tom heavy uptempo rock beat, some overdriven bass and the occasional distorted power chord...and wanted to save the file to work on it later, I just picked a random word to name the file...and the word that sprung to mind was "Traumatic."  

When I got back to that nowhere-near-finished project last night, I stayed in that direction.  I found some male emo/post-punk style rock vocals that I bent to shape...and the track took shape from there.  The spoken word bits about PTSD, the blues rock guitar solo, the odd electronic glitchy synth bit here and there, a sped up bayou breakbeat and a couple of false endings, just for fun.  (And, because I hear those of you who let me know that Interbay tracks are often a bit too long, I chopped off an extra minute or so off the end of this one, so it runs less than five minutes.  I know, that's probably still too long, but it's something...)  

Could a drummer actually drum this in one go?  I think so.  I mean, Clem Burke played "Dreaming" for decades.  Certainly, the breakbeat section is do-able...but, those uptempo toms could be difficult to keep up with (maybe another good reason I should keep my track lengths shorter?)  

The guitars on this are kept minimal on purpose until the bluesy guitar solo...I like the contrast, makes the solo pop a bit more.    

I think if there were any pair of songs to "feel" like they came out in the same day, to give you a broader sense of what Interbay is about...the combination of "Traumatic" and "Embrace The Night" ticks a lot of the boxes.  

Listen to 'em both...and then consider following the page, so you never miss a track (even if the Next Pro recommendations occasionally go down.)  New tracks, never heard before anywhere else, are posting here EVERY DAY (so far!)

Good Enough For You

I do love it when your brain just locks into an idea and it feels effortless to create something.  

I also like it when MY brain does that, too!  And that's what happened with "Quibble"--the latest Interbay track to drop exclusively here on SoundCloud.    

At 114bpm, it grooves instead of sprints.  The palette of sound colors is limited to just a few and the grind of repetition is a feature on this track, not a bug.  There is progression and there is acceleration, as the energy level of the song does built throughout the tracks length.  

And the lyrics construct a narrative that is about storytelling techniques and escaping a seemingly inevitable fate--"the magic of quibbles."  That sure feels like a worthy topic to make an Interbay song about!  

Is there at least a little bit of Rufus Du Sol influence here?  I think so.  Your mileage may vary, of course.  

"Keep your eyes out for those sly quibbles."  

Heading into the weekend, this slightly dark but still worthy of an enthusiastic dance track feels perfectly timed.  Hopefully you'll give this one a listen, a like, a repost and share.  Add it to a groovy dance playlist.  Leave a comment.
