ORGANIST, HARPSICHORDIST, PIANIST, MUSICOLOGIST, AND MUSIC TEACHER
Organist (liturgical and concert), pianist, and continuo harpsichordist - Born in Maceió (Alagoas), lived in Portugal between the years 2011 and 2012. He is currently based in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais); Brazil, performing in several cities in Brazil and abroad.
PhD in Documentary Historical Musicology, stricto sensu, by the Universidade Estadual de Campinas- UNICAMP / Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal), having been a CAPES doctoral scholarship holder. Master in Documentary Historical Musicology, stricto sensu, by UNICAMP. Specialist in Brazilian Music (organ performance - Latu Sensu) - Recital on Brazilian Composers for Organ, and Bachelor in Piano (graduation) by Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais - UEMG. In Portugal, at the University of Coimbra, he studied Paleography and Diplomatics (I and II) and History of the Book: from Manuscript to Digital, extremely necessary tools in musicological historical documentary research. She studied performance on the Spanish Baroque Organ, an extension course at the University of the State of Minas Gerais, UEMG, and harpsichord at the State University of Campinas-UNICAMP, in addition to courses and classes with several European organists. In her research, she made important musicological discoveries about the history of the pipe organ in Colonial and Imperial Brazil, focusing on the Benedictine Monasteries, resulting in the construction of a new history of the pipe organ in Brazil, based on historical documents from the 16th century on. He has published academic texts in Brazil and abroad (Portugal and Spain), in addition to promoting this musical instrument through seminars, lectures, and interviews on Rede Globo and TV Cultura. He has also conducted master classes in Brazil and abroad.
He was a professor at the Minas Gerais State University - UEMG (undergraduate and graduate / 2016- 2017), and at the Baptist College of Minas Gerais (music and theology courses/1996-2017), where he was the Coordinator of the Sacred Music Course, and created and was Director of the Free Music Course. He oriented two students of the State University of Minas Gerais and one student of the Federal University of Pampa (Rio Grande do Sul). He taught at YAMAHA Music Center (1983-1988), a free course in popular music, where he began to work professionally as an organist, keyboardist and pianist. From 1986 to 1990 he was the director of the Music School of the First Baptist Church in Belo Horizonte. In August 1990 he founded his first free music course school, Clavier Center Ltda. After that, he founded Intermezzo Centro de Educação Musical LTDA (1993-2005). In both schools, he was course coordinator and author of the Clavier Method and Intermezzo Method, adopted in organ, keyboard and piano classes for teaching children, youth and adults. These methods included didactic compositions of his authorship. He was Director and Coordinator of the Baptist Music School - EBM (2017-2021), unit of the Baptist Education Network, being responsible for the elaboration of the entire pedagogical project and the physical space of its headquarters. From 2011 to 2018 he coordinated the pipe organ concert series "Recitais em Lourdes", at the Basilica of Lourdes, in Belo Horizonte, where he performed in several concerts. From 2017, the series Music Nights at the Baptist School of Music, and the series Music in the Foyer, at the Baptist Education Network. Between the years 2018 and 2020, he was the Artistic Director of a series of weekly pianistic presentations at the Gourmer Space of the BH Shopping Mall, where he performed as pianist several times.
In social events, he performed through musical services: ceremonies (official and religious), dinners, cocktail parties and receptions). He was organist in the commemorative Mass to the 200 years of the translocation of the Royal Family and in other events connected to the Brazilian Imperial and Royal Family.
         He was responsible for the music and liturgy in the several official services and events of this same Educational Institution during the Centennial year of the Mineiro Baptist School. In the Centennial service, two choirs participated (children, 50 children - adult, 120 choir members); and an orchestra with 50 musicians. Since its foundation, it has played and coordinated the music in official events Capitania Fluvial de Minas Gerais (Brazilian Navy).
Author of compositions for organ that have been performed in concerts in Brazil, USA and Europe. His work "Fanfarra Real" was part of his master's thesis entitled "Nasal Respiration Applied to Performance", being the material of study in this academic work at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. This work has been performed in various parts of the world in its various versions.
In July 2018 he received, by the Brazilian Society of Arts Culture and Teaching - SBACE, the decoration of the "Cultural Merit Carlos Gomes", for his performance as an organist musician and musicologist, in the degree of Commander. In a ceremony was promoted by the Fluvial Captaincy of Minas Gerais (Brazilian Navy), in November 2020, he received the Medal Amigo da Marinha, for relevant services rendered to the same. In July 2018 he received, by the Brazilian Society of Arts Culture and Teaching-SBACE, the decoration of the "Cultural Merit Carlos Gomes", for his performance as an organist musician and musicologist, in the degree of Commander. In November of 2020 he received the medal and the honorific title "Friend of the Brazilian Navy", which recognizes civil personalities that have distinguished themselves in their relationship with the Navy. In 2022, he joined the Brazilian Academy of Music, occupying Chair No. 14, whose patron is Brazil's first organist, Father Pedro da Fonseca. In the same ceremony, he received the Pedro I Commendation, commemorating the 200 years of Brazil's independence.
Since 1975 he has worked as organist and liturgical pianist in several churches, and held the position of titular organist in the following churches Grace Baptist Church in Belo Horizonte for 11 years (1975 - 1986); First Baptist Church of Belo Horizonte for two periods, (1986-2004) and (2018-2-22); Belo Memorial Baptist Church for 14 years (2004-2018); Renaissance Baptist Church for 14 years (2005-2019); Minor Seminary Chapel in Coimbra, Portugal (January to August 2011); St. James of Almalaguês, Portugal (2012); Metropolitan Presbyterian Church in Belo Horizonte for 4 years (2014-2018). He is currently organist at the Presbyterian Church of Belo Horizonte (2022 to date).
Every year he tours organ concerts throughout Brazil, USA and Europe. In 1999 he had his first international performance in a series of 18 concerts, in several cities of Portugal, as the organist in the work "The Messiah", by G. F. Handel. He inaugurated the Rodgers digital organ, model Trillium Masterpiece 908, at the Memorial Baptist Church in Brasilia, when he performed a concert and played at the consecration service of this instrument. In 2010, he performed in concert at Stratford Baptist Church - Stratford- Connecticut (USA). On this occasion his Royal Fanfare was premiered in the USA, with the participation of six American trumpeters. In the same year he participated in the series of concerts commemorating the centenary of birth of the composer and organist Leo Schneider, when he premiered his work 'Toccata Brevis', dedicated to this composer from Rio Grande do Sul. In 2011 he was in Braga (Portugal) where he performed an organ concert at the Sameiro Basilica, a workshop on organ registration for liturgy, and a lecture on pipe organs. In September 2011, he performed the opening concert of the series commemorating the 100 years of the pipe organ of the Evangelical Cathedral of São Paulo. Between the years 2012 and 2019 he formed the Duo Regia Symphonia Musicae with the Spanish trumpeter Basílio Gomarín Píriz, participating in annual series of concerts in Spain, focusing on Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, as well as other period styles. He was the organist in G. Fauré's "Requiem" in 2013, with the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Choir, at the Palácio das Artes. In December 2016 and January 2017, he toured Europe, performing concerts in Portugal, Spain, and Germany. On this tour, he participated in the closing of the series of concerts commemorating the 300th anniversary of the completion of the historic organ of the Sé Cathedral of Faro, Portugal, installed by its organ maker Johann Heinrich Hulenkampf in 1716. In this performance, he performed G. F. Handel's "Concerto for Organ and Orchestra," Opus 4, No. 4, with the Algarve Camerata, and A. Vivaldi's "Gloria" with the Academy Classical Orchestra. In January 2017 he performed in the Leiblfing Parish with a program highlighting works by Iberian and Brazilian masters. At this concert, he performed his work 'Baião for Organ', from the 'Brazilian Suite for Organ',
   
version for 4 hands and 4 feet. The local newspaper Straubinger Tagblatt commented: "The fiery rhythms of this work, together with timbres similar to the accordion and fife, thrilled the audience, who spontaneously applauded, a rare occurrence in Germany. He also had recognition through a local newspaper review, which valued his composition for organ for four hands and four feet, and his performance as soloist, when he was applauded during the concert. In October 2017, he inaugurated an organ at the Igresia Evangélica Bautista in Sevilla, Spain, in addition to teaching a masterclass. In December 2017, he was organist in Gustav Host's 'The Planets' with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Minas Gerais at Sala Minas Gerais, and in December 2021, he was organist in Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns' 'Organ Symphony No 3 in C minor, Op 78'. In January 2019, he performed a series of concerts at the Cathedral of Faro (Portugal) on the historic organ of the builder Johann Heinrich Hulenkampf, and in Seville (Spain) with Spanish trumpeter Alejandro Gómez Hurtado. In the same year, with Spanish trumpeter Basilio Gomarín, in Valadolid and Torrelavega (Spain). In January 2020, he participated in the ORGAN CONCERT SERIE 2020 * Obrechtkerk Internationale Orgel Concert, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. On this occasion, he performed the world premiere of his piece "Chorinho em Coimbra", from the 'Suite Brasileira Para Órgão'. In November 2023 he gave his second concert in the USA, at the First Congregational Church in Fall River, Massachusetts, in the Lunchtime Organ Concert series, with the special participation of the American trumpeter Robbie LeePage, and the organist Judith Conrad.
