It always seemed pretty shitty of Glen to sneak away while she was sleeping. So this is the story of the girl waking up to find him gone. She’s thunderstruck and heads out on his trail … only to discover there may be more to his departure than meets the eye.

Running Up That Hill Deadline Poet

This is a tune reworked and mixed properly. Sam Reynolds http://soundcloud.com/samfranklin-1 did his magic of mixing and mastering but also added a nifty bass part. Before I sent it to Sam I took the guitar part and raised the pitch from E to F# in Logic. That let me sing it without having an asthma attack on the low notes. But it also was like putting a capo on half way up the neck. Then I rerecorded the vocal on my new condenser mic hanging from the ceiling in my closet. Sam did some work on the guitar to get some body to them.

A Room, Please

This is possibly my fourth or fifth recording of this song. I wrote it 10 or 12 years ago after a line in a book about Neil Young made me laugh out loud. Neil was planning on returning to country music for an album or two and his bass player was frustrated because he felt this meant he'd be relegated to playing eat-shit boom boom bass lines. Impatience with this kind of music was the reason he had left Nashville, he said. Well, this song isn't really about bass lines or about dissing country music, which I love dearly. But it did seem to me there should be a song called The Reason I Left Nashville. This is the latest - and in all likelihood not the last - attempt to do the title justice ...

The Reason I Left Nashville

I write songs about everyday life and a few covers. Some of my tracks are serious but many are not. Humor is my medication. It helps me put things in perspective. As some of you might know, my wife had a thing called Huntington's Disease (HD). HD is the genetic brain disease that Woody Guthrie had. It affected her balance, moods, swallowing and eventually led to her death (October 2015). My reason for mentioning this is that all of my profits from my recordings (I know, good luck with that) are going to the HD clinic we go to at the University of Connecticut. We both got a lot of support there. You can find some tracks for download on my Bandcamp page (the sound quality is better there anyway). http://lehndorff.bandcamp.com/ 

I want to thank everyone for making SoundCloud a wonderful community. I made some wonderful friends and was inspired to do music again because of you. The new SoundCloud was bungled. But it is, what it is. I am back writing songs and practicing and have been performing here and there. While I am concentrating on getting gigs at the moment (rather than recording), I will upload some of my existing songs that I took down when I stopped my paid account. I have really old stuff on my archive account.
