Soul Clap - When Deep House Was Deep

For those who were asking what the mysterious mix that was put on after the DJs stopped playing outside at the Life and Death party in Art Basel, here it is. A mellow trip prepared by Greg from Thugfucker and presented here as a little thank you from all of us at Life and Death. 

It's been an amazing year and we're so very appreciative of all the support we've gotten as we've adventured forwards on this incredible musical trip together. We've got lots of exciting things planned for the year ahead (and beyond!) and we look forward to continuing together on this ride wherever it takes us.

Thanks for being there with us along the way. It really does mean the world to us...

Sometimes we come across DJs combining talent with a livewire personality, and Ricky Ryan is among these.

His sound is distinguished by a broad variety of musical styles, from beautiful warm House, and deep Techno, to driving dance floor anthems, always guiding the listener through a spiritual soundscape by his silky smooth mixing and impeccable programming.

Ricky toured worldwide, including gigs at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, The BPM Festival in Mexico, ADE in Amsterdam, Creamfields in his hometown Buenos Aires, and an honourable residency at the spectacular Warung Beach Club in Brazil.

His success is exemplified by featuring on John Digweed's Transitions show, and on Proton Radio, setting a record of simultaneous listeners, with rave reviews from Sander Kleinenberg, Danny Howells, and Desyn Masiello for DJ MAG.

Ricky Ryan is just as well respected for his remixes and productions while establishing Mauricio Viana's Electronic Groove Records, supported by Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, and many more.

It started in the mid-eighties with David Rodigan. Every show was listened to and archived by me. Then came the combination of Hip Hop and Reggae, much played by Red Alert on Kiss NYC! Around 2000 the compilation "Darker than Blue" and "Hustle" appeared on Soul Jazz. Reggae and soul became part of my program. Also Daniel Best set standards for mixing in my DJ sets with "Dub Infusion" as well as his "Best Works Selection". You can listen to a small selection of my favorites here. 95 minutes mixed live. Seamoon is the psychedelic chillout project of Simon Neumann, a German artist and educated audio engineer, located in South Germany. With a background as a jazz drummer in his youth, Simon got sucked into psychedelic electronic music when he was about 17. From then on, he spent his free time tweaking exotic psychedelic downtempo beats with mystical atmospheres and twisted lead sounds. 

Without any certain approach, philosophy or thought, Simon creates his music directly out of his deeper inner essence and tries to express his rising emotions of the moment through the medium of sound. In the early 90’s Peter falls in love with electronic music as escapism from his troubled and abusive childhood. Underground electronic music was new, exciting and Peter’s rebellious soul was soon captivated. His love for music has been constant ever since.

Headphones and listening excessively to loud music not only served its purpose of exclusion from the world, but this was the beginning of his musical journey. After listening to single tracks, he soon moved on to DJ sets, as the long journeys and the artistic freedom that characterized these were something he could strongly relate to.

This was when he started his vast and multi-genre vinyl collection and soon after moved on to playing and mixing these. He found extreme joy in music and started to build his own world which orbited around it. Mixing different genres was euphoric, he became a fanatic collector and a passionate disc jockey.

His sets are reflections of his current state of mind and he often improvises when in the booth to spice it up. He is always lost in the moment and instantly connects with the crowd. The music is a manifestation of Peter’s emotions.

He favors extended sets, relishing the chance to truly exhibit his talent and deliver captivating mixes across a spectrum of house music genres. He's a versatile house DJ, adept at navigating various styles within the genre. His preference leans towards emotionally charged yet dynamic house music, seamlessly blending deep house, progressive house, and organic house. Occasionally, he infuses melodic elements to sustain the dancefloor's energy.

He has dedicated over 20 years of his life to electronic music and as a result, now manages three labels plus the Truesounds Music Promotion and Management. Hard work finally paid off.

He is more of a DJ but recently started to focus on production as well. His own releases are created in collaboration with co-producers and sounds engineers.

Connecting with people and creating long-lasting memories is what really makes him tick. The DJ booth is his true home.
