Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

There's A Way To Beat This

I wrote Cabrini-Green after watching the more recent Candyman (2021) film at the cinema during a trip to Edinburgh. There was something really evocative about the opening credits, where Chicago's skyscrapers are shown upside down shrouded in fog, which made me feel compelled to try and soundtrack that moment. The rest of the films narrative formed the basis of the songs verses, where I analysed themes of gentrification and inevitability. The chorus was intended to evoke the narrative of the original film being continued, it's the same story being gentrified, just like the area of Cabrini-Green. I think the gloom of the Scottish weather also helped shape the tone of the track. To me it feels like being caught in the middle of a storm. Slightly disorientating, almost therapeutic, but with a menacing undertone of impending doom.

One More Problem dives into the depths of self-esteem and our seeming inabilities in this day and age to respect ourselves. This track explores the journey of allowing yourself to like who you are, and attempts to dispel the negative thoughts we tell ourselves in order to avoid facing and overcoming the challenges we most need to. It explores topics such as Anxiety, Confidence and our inner demons. This song has already gained traction on Spotify (through playlists and algorithmic placements), with our debut music video being released this weekend (30th April)! We were also lucky enough to have this song produced by Scott Goodrich (Story So Far).
