Advent:

In the Protestant church, it commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in particular. 2nd Advent: It serves as preparation for the return of Christ. 3rd Advent: It commemorates John the Baptist. 4th Advent: In the Catholic Church in particular, the focus here is on Mary, the Mother of God.

Like all Sundays in Advent, the 2nd Advent is named after the opening hymn of the Holy Mass: Populus Sion. The redemptive aspect of God takes center stage on the second Sunday of Advent. On this day, Christians particularly commemorate the prophesied redemption from all earthly suffering through Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross.

The Union crosses the Rappahannock river and clears Fredericksburg. The Confederates retreat to the surrounding hills behind a 4 foot high stone wall. Union frontal attacks, while valiant, are futile with casualties 2:1 ending in total Union withdrawal. History would later lay blame on the Union high command for the debacle. 
Lyrics - have multiple meanings: Crossing the river, subsequent fears and sorrow, poor Immigrant and runaway slave Negro soldiers compelled by their conscience to fight for a better free world; give their all often dying slowly and painfully while left alone on the battlefield - now the Lyrics:

Legendary English folk singer Ralph McTell wrote this song for the Irish band The Fureys, a ballad about the tough times in Ireland when families were separated because of emigration.

I will never forget the walk to the station
Me with your suitcase being brotherly strong,
Trying to make light of the whole situation
In light conversation we move through the throng

Above all the roar of the town was the blue sky
I could hear  the birds singing for the joy of the day,
There was no support from the city forthcoming
No sympathy knowing you are going away,

Me in my work clothes, unshaven so plain
Oh I fully intended to put in a half day,
But my good intentions went with you on the train.

I'm so grateful to SoundCloud and it's amazing community of musicians and listeners for helping making a dream come true. Having worked for years at song writing and guitar technique, it's great to know that folks all over the world have listened, and there's even been a few radio airplays.
