These recordings originated as multichannel pieces presented
at events organised around Goldsmiths University, London, 
by Sandra Kazlauskaite and Tom Mudd during 2015. These have 
been reworked and reconstructed here for stereo.

All the recordings have their origins in repeating patterns or 
sequences which then drift over time or start to collapse entirely, 
either by design or by accident — e.g. poor quality or non-
existent synchronisation between different devices, fluctuating 
or random/unstable voltages, human interference etc.

Phil Julian (E213; 2017)

The Two Ronnies, The Pet Shop Boys, Suicide and now Dale 'n' Phil. 6.2.16 marks the first live outing of much new material from these two excellent human beings - and it also marks possibly the only time we’ve seen proper heckling in OTO’s usually library quiet atmos. “It’s not Whitehouse definitely!” someone yells, but what is? We can't repeat Dale's real retort - you'll have to download the whole asymetric out-of-sync software driven half hour yourself for that. “Language is a nuisance” goes one of their ‘songs’, and they’re right, but if we’re going to use it then we for one want Dale Cornish in charge of the dictionary.

Austerely described as 'five sets of interrelated pattern based / sequencer derived recordings', Clastics lays down a gauntlet of straitjacket electronics, fizzing and crackling into and out of life. Mutated patterns evolve and decay without a care in the world.

Clastics

Phil Julian - 'EA' (from 'Clastics', CON007)

Phil Julian is a UK based composer and improviser active since the late 1990s principally working with modular electronic devices and computers.

Audio works by Julian (and under the Cheapmachines alias) have been published on labels including Entr’acte, Banned Production, The Tapeworm, Harbinger Sound, Confront Recordings, Staalplaat (Open Circuit imprint), con-v, Beartown Records as well as numerous compilation appearances.

He also runs the Authorised Version label.

Julian has collaborated on remixes, recordings and performances with Tomas Korber, Michael Renkel, Jason Kahn, Daniel Jones, Kostis Kilymis, Tom Mudd, Angharad Davies, John Macedo, Dominic Lash, Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga, Dale Cornish, Ryan Jordan, Maurizio Bianchi, Nihilist Assault Group, The New Blockaders and GX Jupitter-Larsen of The Haters as well as being a member of the improvised drone ensemble Signals with Mark Beazley and Chris Gowers and playing as part of Mark Wastell’s improvising group The Seen.
