"Xylem" is a three-year creative journey that began with the discovery of forgotten, weathered instruments in my home. These 'found objects' and their unique sounds served as the foundation for the entire composition. As I explored the project, I immersed myself in the world of African rhythms, employing the kalimba and accordion as my musical palette. The essence of this work lies in the spontaneous, organic improvisations that echo traditional musical expressions.

The title, “Xylem," draws inspiration from the plant kingdom, specifically the transport tissue responsible for conveying water and nutrients from a plant's roots to its leaves. Rooted in the Greek word “xylon," meaning 'wood,' this title captures the dual significance of nurturing growth and the tactile nature of wood. In “Xylem," I craft intricate wooden textures using the kalimba, interweaving them with deep, resonant frequencies from the accordion. The result is a composition that bridges the worlds of nature and music, offering a unique sonic experience.

In response to the second edition of Zweigstelle Capitain, Villa Lontana Records conceived a site specific soundscape composed by field and electromagnetic recordings collected in Gisela Capitain's headquarter gallery in Cologne and the gallery’s temporary space in Rome. This vast collection of sounds has been captured and edited by Michele Ferrari and selected by Villa Lontana Records which commissioned the sound design to Rome-based sound designer Giuseppe Tillieci (Neel), playing with the idea of dislocation through spatialisation, distortion and electronics.

Hello friends. I performed a quadraphonic set on October 26th. I decided to make it challenging by using the Octatrack to continually sample me and make harmonies, drums, basses, and other stuff from the immediate samples. Nothing is pre-recorded, and there is no traditional synthesis. Everything you hear is immediately derived from the saxophone in the room, live, in-the-moment. Enjoy!
