TAFFETA | 84

This is the first track I've created after wrapping up my new album “aes.thet.ics”. There is always uncertainty as to what I want to work on after releasing a collection of material. (or if I need a break)It's a combination of relief/fulfillment, mixed with self imposed pressure as to needing to come up with ideas for future work.

Going back to minimal piano remains a comforting direction. For me it's always a rewarding emotional release.

Is it pronounced Athel-flad or Ethel-fled, I'll leave it up to you.  She was the Lady of the Mercians in 900 CE.  Although not crowned as a Queen she was a strong but compassionate ruler according to the historians.

2nd track from Grundomma 
Grundomma is myself and my brother Glenn Ward. It's been a few years since we actively made music together...but now seems like a good a time as any. We live a few 1000 kms apart across Australia so this a file swapping exercise. Bongo features Glenn on rhythm programming, synths and sampling, bass and yours truly on Piano/keys. The track features samples from the 1970s/80s cult Australian Tv show Prisoner  (released in the UK and USA as Prisoner: Cell Block H)  that ended up playing in repeat on late night Tv for decades afterwards. My brother even owns the DVD box set Thanks as always for stopping by. Grundomma salutes you : )

This composition was inspired by the poem "Day is Done" by the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882).  

Day is Done

The day is done, and the darkness 
Falls from the wings of Night, 
As a feather is wafted downward 
From an eagle in his flight. 

I see the lights of the village 
Gleam through the rain and the mist, 
And a feeling of sadness comes o'er me 
That my soul cannot resist: 

A feeling of sadness and longing, 
That is not akin to pain, 
And resembles sorrow only 
As the mist resembles the rain. 

Come, read to me some poem, 
Some simple and heartfelt lay, 
That shall soothe this restless feeling, 
And banish the thoughts of day. 

Not from the grand old masters, 
Not from the bards sublime, 
Whose distant footsteps echo 
Through the corridors of Time. 

For, like strains of martial music, 
Their mighty thoughts suggest 
Life's endless toil and endeavor; 
And to-night I long for rest. 

Read from some humbler poet, 
Whose songs gushed from his heart, 
As showers from the clouds of summer, 
Or tears from the eyelids start; 

Who, through long days of labor, 
And nights devoid of ease, 
Still heard in his soul the music 
Of wonderful melodies. 

Such songs have power to quiet 
The restless pulse of care, 
And come like the benediction 
That follows after prayer. 

Then read from the treasured volume 
The poem of thy choice, 
And lend to the rhyme of the poet 
The beauty of thy voice. 

And the night shall be filled with music 
And the cares, that infest the day, 
Shall fold their tents, like the Arabs, 
And as silently steal away.

Poem Emily Bronte.

I had the great joy visiting the Bronte sisters' hometown Haworth in West Yorkshire, with my two sisters two years ago.
Walking in the beautiful, wild and kind nature, I met the poetry of Emliy Bronte (30 July 1818 – 19 December 1848),
I met her there at the moors.

Not a vapour had stained the breezeless blue
Not a cloud had dimmed the sun
From the time of morning's earliest dew
Till the summer day was done

And all as pure and all as bright
The sun of evening died
And purer still its parting light
Shone in Lake Elnor's tide

Waveless and calm lies that silent deep
In its wilderness of moors
Solemn and soft the moonbeams sleep
Upon its heathy shores

Emily Jane Brontë (30 July 1818 – 19 December 1848) was an English novelist and poet who is best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, now considered a classic of English literature. She also published one book of poetry with her sisters Charlotte and Anne titled Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell with her own poems finding regard as poetic genius.

Dear Followers,
Hi there....... how, are you? .. thank you so much for all the compliments. . as much as I would love to make music everyday, and in a ideal life, I can, that is not quite possible for a while... Please excuse me,
I have just lost my mother last month, (October, 2023 ), the last one of both parents. In the week before her passing I just recorded the most beautiful music ever, because
I wanted to produce a cd with my music for her. but she will not hear it now... I am very upset and sad about her passing, and tired because of all the work
related to that passing.... please forgive me, you will have to wait for a little longer, I am just not in the mood. Hopefully next year, dear followers.... kind regards, Coccinella
