Armed with attention-commanding and lyrically sharp bars, Phlow lets her words take the lead in her dynamic new visuals for “Reputation.” 

The Lagos, Nigeria-based MC receives ample screen time in these slick visuals from director Rcube, but it’s only right that her rhymes are the focal point. Her powerful prose gets complemented by sleek animations, sharp cuts, and tight editing, all of which is bolstered by the head-nodding, rugged production from Teck-Zilla. And for those wondering, yes, that’s a flip of Yvonne Fair's classic “Let Your Hair Down,” ringing out across the instrumental.

Just as the track itself was a strong introduction to Phlow and her commanding presence on the mic, the “Reputation” video emphasizes that she’s a rapper you better start following, lest you be left behind once she delivers more material. Be on the lookout for new music from Phlow, and the rest of her Str8Buttah crew for that matter, in the near future.

“Long Way to Go” is the powerful new single from Boston’s own Blak Madeen, who are gearing up to release their new album, 'Supreme Aftermath.'

Since debuting in 2008, the duo of Al-J and Yusuf Abdul-Mateen have used their positivity and passion to craft some of the more poignant Hip-Hop to come out of the New England area. And that’s especially apparent on “Long Way to Go,” a cutting song that features a sharp guest verse from living rap legend, Gift of Gab (of Blackalicious). He and Blak Madeen recognize that with each step we take forward as a society to get better, we’re still not there just yet.

Their message is anchored by a contemplative, piano-laden instrumental supplied by The Arcitype, who captures the emotion heard within the verses and chorus. The latter is supplied by rising singer-songwriter Cyrus DeShield, a gifted vocalist who we’ll surely be hearing more from in 2016.

When NYC rapper Danny Matos hits the booth, his energy and lust for life are apparent. The same goes for his innate talent, which he showcases through his latest single, “Let Go.”

In addition to demonstrating his skills on the mic, the New York artist has a message for his audience on the second leak off his upcoming EP, 'The Hangar.' When he repeats “All I could do is learn to let go…” on the hook, it’s a mantra we could all stand to live by. Everyone’s held on to something (or someone) they thought could get better or that they can change, and Matos even declares himself a hypocrite in this regard. Even so, it’s learning how to get past it all that can allow us all to grow.

Just like on previous single “New Genre,” this track (and the rest of the EP) finds the driven MC backed by melodic, live instrumentation from Rusty Mack and the Red Walrus. They both represent Surf School, a skilled crew of artists led by super-producer Harry Fraud.

As we welcome the new year, Hip-Hop heads can reflect on 2015 with Bekay’s annual ‘year in review.’ 

For over a decade now, the Brooklyn emcee has been condensing the previous twelve months’ events into a succinct, humorous, no-punches-pulled track. Next to Skillz, Bekay’s series is the longest-running “wrap-up” in the game. And while his contemporary tends to focus more on the music industry, Bekay covers sports, politics, general f*ckery, and everything in between.

That much is evident from the jump, where the Brooklyn rapper pays homage to this year’s smash hit, Straight Outta Compton, before referencing the Drake and Meek Mill beef, the Pope rolling through New York in “a f*cking armored golf cart,” and Ronda Rousey’s vicious beat down, all set to the instrumental for Drake’s momentous “Back To Back” diss. Gang Starr Foundation member and rhymesayer Hannibal Stax along with Brooklyn’s leading boom-bap purveyor Marco Polo have teamed up for a collaborative project entitled Seize The Day (the duo’s mixtape/precursor, The Honorable, was released in December of 2012) which is now available via Soulspazm Records.

Originally discovered by DJ Premier, Stax has been a staple on NYC’s underground scene for years and was featured on two Gang Starr LP’s and numerous tracks that were lost in major label recording vaults. Although Stax is undeniably a veteran, Seize The Day represents his long-overdue solo debut.

Phlow is a Lagos,Nigeria based emcee who started penning rhymes as an outlet of expression. 
 After obtaining a degree in computer-science Phlow moved back to Lagos and by happen-stance met Str8buttah founder/producer Teck-Zilla at a show via a mutual friend. Both then developed a mutual working chemistry which led to the recording of her debut EP.
   Presently she has 2 EPs to her credit, “Mind,Body & Phlow” and “Asuai: A Mini EP”, a handful of singles “Phlowetic Justice”, “Love It or Not” and was featured on top music sites such as TheSource.com, HipHopDX, 2Dopeboyz,Egotripland, Elle magazine(France) amongst others.
  She is currently preparing a new wave of songs while working with different producers from around the globe as she positions herself to be a force to be reckoned with in Hip-Hop at home and abroad.
