The recording from one of my favourite sets last year ~ Transcendence Festival in Japan 🌲🇯🇵

I’ve long been drawn to the deep, organic and electrifying techno of Japan–inextricably linked to open-air gatherings deep in the forest–so it was very special to play this set in the mystical woods of Nagano’s mountains.

I played after Japanese wizard OCCA @oooccaaa, from 11.30PM-2AM ~ descending into the night and far beyond ✧.*｡⋆

Deepest thanks to @takumiinamoto1994 and @djmaria-jp for the invitation to join this gathering of likeminded musical souls, I am very grateful to have shared this experience with friends old + new 🫶

Patrick Russell is a true veteran of the US underground, perhaps one of the last unsung heroes of a now lost era in the Midwest. A genuine sonic storyteller, he magically transforms the diaspora of acid, pure jack energy, and hints of IDM into a deep, fluent sonic dialog that never fails to devastate both minds and dance floor.

A Detroit-bred DJ, artist, and producer active since the early 90's, Patrick has now made New York City his home. Perhaps best known as a key figure in the legendary No Way Back parties, his ability to weave intensely unique, long-format narratives has earned him critical acclaim and repeat performances at Japan’s Labyrinth festival, Berghain, Unsound, and DEMF/Movement. Patrick has also been steadily building a strong catalog of high-profile productions to compliment his increasingly varied, hypnotic, and in-demand DJ sets; his recent 3-track remix EP on The Bunker New York also marks his induction as an official resident DJ at the long-running Brooklyn party.

His consummate taste and disciplined execution have created a respect that cannot be purchased. Patrick Russell is not just a name to watch, he is someone to be experienced.

Korg Volca Drum provides the rhythm, while Volca Keys - creates dub stabs. The Korg NTS-1 with the J-6 oscillator adds lush atmospheric pads. A field recording of rain and thunder, captured on a Zoom H1n, is layered in for extra depth and texture.

SHXCXCHCXSHは結成以来、メンバーの名前や年齢、性別などいっさいの情報を公開せずに、徹底して匿名性にこだわった 活動を行っている、スウェーデン東部のかつての工業都市、ノルチェピング出身のテクノデュオ。ある時ストックホルムで再会を果たした 2人は、互いにテクノのダークでエクスペリメンタルな領域への愛情を共有し、すぐに自然ななりゆきによって、制作活動を共にしながら 自分たちの音楽を進化させていく。彼らの音楽的バックグラウンドは、ヒップホップからロック、ポップスまで広がり、その多様な知識と 経験から形成された、彼ら特有のサウンドとアイディアは、ノイズ、ドローン、グリッチ、ブロークンビーツ、インダストリアルミュー ジックなどの要素の入った、徹底的に妥協なくシリアスなSHXCXCHCXSHテクノを生み出すに至る。
その後SemanticaやSubsistといったレーベルから散発的に作品を発表していたSHXCXCHCXSHは、やがて ShiftedとVentressによるレーベル Avianをリリースの拠点とし、何枚かのEPのリリースでシーンの注目を集めた後、2013年に自らの発音しにくい名前をエッチングしたデビューアルバ ム「STRGTHS」を、続く2014年にはセカンド・フルアルバム「Linear S Decoded」を立て続けにリリースする。とりわけ「Linear S Decoded」は、これまでに彼らが培ってきたパワフルでスリリングなテクノサウンドを少しも損なうことなく、素晴らしく複雑で優れた感受性を湛えた、 新たなるSHXCXCHCXSHの世界を提示、この作品のリリースによって、彼らのシーンでのユニークな位置づけは決定的なものと なった。以後もSHXCXCHCXSHはLIVE PAを中心に精力的に活動を続けており、もうすぐ待望の新作のリリースも噂されている。

Phonons is a non-profit organization supporting electronic musicians and selectors. It is based in Marseille - France and has strong connections in Europe , Asia and in the USA. It was founded in 2011 at the initiative of Nahim Bendjilali, Philippe Gray-Lopez and Vincent Telandro.
