Projection

I generally find this time of year somewhat tiresome; the resolutions, the Auld Lang Syne nonsense, the food, the drink, the parties … 

In fact, these days - actually, for the past decade and a half - I tend to spend the turning of the year very quietly, with people I love, eschewing all the fleeting bonhomie that seems to permeate everything and often is as swiftly forgotten as it came. 

It is, nonetheless, a time to which we attach a particular meaning; the end of one year, the beginning of another and January, of course,  is named after Janus the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, and doorways. He is depicted as having two faces,  one looking forward the other looking back. 

I often wonder if the almost frantic celebrations as the clock strikes midnight are based on exciting possibilities to come, or more on the fervent belief that whatever has dogged our footsteps for the last 365 days will somehow miraculously vanish in the crazed firework displays, never to return - until it does! 

Talking of days and their number I personally believe we should adopt a moon phase calendar; each month (the word being derived from moon anyway) would last 28 days and there would be 13 months in a year.  This pleases the ancient hippy still residing inside me, not least as I count 13 as a wonderful number. It would also banish leap years which would, in my opinion, be no bad thing

In any case, the above is a mere glimpse into my thought processes as I composed this Nocturne, and which, despite my outwardly curmudgeonly phizog,  I present to you with real pleasure on this, the final day of 2025.

Disappointments, part 2: Intensities and extinction.

Began in March 2019 and other, further, parts were experimented on till September. 
I have yet to complete the other parts, if I will, and I am not sure if this complete. I have to listen to it a while longer or not at all.

This is a representation of 11 people from my past "reincarnated" in another person. Happy that all of those people plus 1-again, will be staying again.

Please enjoy my latest offering in largely generative Jams. For the first four pieces i used many elements of condition and controlled randomness, trying to emulate a modular vibe without actually using a modular. And yes, i played my bass on the last track. 
And yes, maybe unrelated to this release, black lives matter just as much your or my live.  Racism is a cancer we need to cure once and for all in each and everyone of us.

Guitarist for over 30 years, I only started composing/recording my own material around 2006, which is when I also began dabbling in piano & synth.   

Many of these 100+ tracks are centered around life experiences, as well as people I've crossed paths with.  

These tracks are all presented "as is," and as such may have varying sound quality and volume levels.  Many of the older ones were recorded before I had any idea about multi-tracking.  

Some may even sound a bit "out of context", as several of these pieces were pulled from larger, more experimental compositions.  

Over the past several months I have started slowly returning to my rock & metal roots.  It seems to always come down to a lack of time; having lots of ideas but no time to actually sit down and bring them to life.
